  • Enjoyable and educational

When I can learn something new from a podcast episode, it was worth my time. When I can learn several things from an episode, it’s an excellent show. I hope future segments are just as good.

  • Much needed dose of cold water.

I first heard Adam Becker speaking on the dystopia now podcast and immedietly read both of his books. This podcast is a much needed breath of fresh air and pertinent commentary on the times we’re living in right now.

  • Hope. We all need hope. It is part of the pursuit of happiness, and dreams are its blueprints. Dreams of a better future. Dreams of good life. Dreams of a world that values people over things and peace and contentment over profits and prisons--where gatekeepers become teachers and guardians of resources become protectors of humanity...all of humanity. This podcast is about creating hope, about dreaming of a better future than the ones we've been programmed to believe in, and Adam is our hacker.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 4: Reactionary Futurism, with Dave Karpf
Q: What would a more grounded, equitable approach to science funding look like, in contrast to the abundance narrative?
Adam and Dave discuss channeling funding toward public goods and pragmatic governance, with selective, well-justified investments in key areas like renewable energy and infrastructure, while avoiding overpromising on transformative tech like universal nanotech or quick-fix solutions.
Episode 4: Reactionary Futurism, with Dave Karpf
Q: In your view, what makes these 'techno-utopian' books so appealing despite the evidence?
Dave explains that the appeal lies in a frontier mindset and the belief that science and tech can solve grand-scale problems if given enough freedom and funding, though he notes the rhetoric often ignores real-world complexity and risks.
