Started listening with your coverage of The Gilded Age. I’m sure I’ll go back and listen to your Downton recaps. I like the pod a lot, but had to stop listening. Why? Because you give away future plot elements when you talk about the trailers for next week and the upcoming season. I will never understand why podcasters do this. It’s truly bizarre. At least say to skip ahead five minutes, or, save it for a spoiler section at the end. Cheers.
These ladies are so full of themselves. They put down and make fun of every character on the show, it’s like their having a Downtom Abby roast of all the actors and the plot. But what I really hated was this one commentator who laughed really loud and long at every single thing that was said. Even when no one was saying anything she laughed a long hee-haw laugh constantly. So stupid.
I wanted to like this because I love the show. But the hosts were just too opposite to the nature of the show. Very high school giggley and cussy for my taste. They were not very funny, nor do they need to be. People can be funny without trying so hard to have a zinger in every sentence. That’s a half-hour television comedy sit-com thing. An occasional zinger carries much more and much further than a ton of not so funny multitude of attempts.
Pros: Slightly funny and it's interesting to get 4 perspectives in one podcast
Cons: They get so off topic it takes forever to get to an actual opinion or analysis. Constantly making fun of everything in the show so I'm not even sure if they enjoy it. Plus the laughter and side chatter gets to be obnoxious. It's understandable since they're friends but for the listener it gets annoying.
This podcast is a great companion to Downton Abbey, especially those of us who love it but see its flaws and ridiculousness. The hosts have a huge breadth of knowledge that help them bring important context to their discussions, from history and culture to the science of birth control and the structure and craft of screenwriting and character development. They’ve upgraded their recording equipment this season and it shows (well, hears). All the better to process their creative cursing! Definitel... more
