  • Necessary, but man…

This podcast fills a much-needed niche in popular music. The New Wave sound was/is so fantastic, but since its heyday passed, it’s hard to find news and reviews on it. Well, here ya go. But then we’ve got problems - and this after listening to many episodes - The reviews tend to sound repetitive and rehearsed. You get a very strong sense that the comments are just being read from note cards and not extemporaneous (and then also not feeling very genuine). If I hear “you’re reading my notes” one ... more

  • Just discovered your podcast - superb

I came across your podcast as you featured Ian McNabb’s superb new album, a long time favourite artist. Then on the next show you had an interview with another great, Jay Aston from Gene Loves Jezebel, really enjoyable, Jay sounds like a top bloke.

  • This is a super-fans delight!

Steve and T-bone repeatedly deliver honest and insightful album reviews of legendary bands that shaped an entire generation and still deserve the attention today! I’m hooked and looking forward to more!

  • I’ve Been Waiting!

As a true first generation New Waver & alternative music lover, I find it so dismissive when a ‘legacy’ band releases something new and it’s ignored. This podcast does a noble service to those releases. Well done!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Interview: John Thomas Griffith from Red Rockers
Q: You've just released a live album through Liberation Hall Records called It's Our Blood. How did that idea come together?
The project came together around a Tipitina's gig in New Orleans; a strong team including Darren Hill and Ricky Schechstner helped produce and film the show, and the concept was to capture the live experience for release.
Interview: John Thomas Griffith from Red Rockers
Q: What was it like revisiting all these songs years later in a live setting?
Revisiting them showed how differently we play now; the speed and precision from the original days were tougher, but the energy and meaning behind the songs remained strongly intact.
Interview: John Thomas Griffith from Red Rockers
Q: Was there a particular track that you revisited on the live album that really stood out to you, either performance-wise or emotionally?
Guns of Revolution stood out because it was the very first song John and I wrote together, and revisiting it reminded us of the band's origins and the intensity of those early days.
Interview: Barry Harris from Kon Kan
Q: What made I Beg Your Pardon such a hit, and did you expect it to breakout internationally?
He explains that he anticipated European and UK audiences would respond, and was surprised by the UK success which far exceeded expectations in the United States.
Interview: Barry Harris from Kon Kan
Q: How did Kon Kan originally form and what was the initial vision for the project?
Barry describes Kon Kan as originally a solo studio concept, born from his interest in samplers and MIDI in the late 80s, with the goal of making a record on his own rather than forming a traditional band.
