  • 70% of the podcast is about Django and the remaining 30% is about the hosts politics, search for power in Django, and money. I listened to 27 episodes and the hosts keep talking about how we need less white men in the Django conferences and as contributors (one of the hosts won't step down from being a contributor and the two of them are hosts in Django conferences, yet they won't live up to these values, and in fact they want money and power in the Django community),not only this but even when ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Django Tasks - Jake Howard
Q: Where did the idea for Django Tasks come from and how did you become the leader on this?
The idea emerged from integrating background task concepts into Wagtail and then expanding to a Django-wide solution; leadership emerged after Carlton Gibson encouraged the initiative, followed by formal discussions and steering council input.
Django Tasks - Jake Howard
Q: So I want to ask you about tasks. Because when it was released, people were a bit confused about the lack of a back-ending core and the messaging around that.
Jake explains that Django Tasks started as an API contract with development backends and a production database backend; over time, focus shifted to a clear separation of API, development, and production layers, and to providing a backend-agnostic shim that works with multiple queues.
Boost Your GitHub DX - Adam Johnson
Q: How do these DX techniques translate to other platforms like GitLab or Codeberg?
Adam notes that many concepts transfer to other hosted CI and Git tooling, with features like CI workflows and code viewing being common across platforms, though availability and specifics may differ.
Boost Your GitHub DX - Adam Johnson
Q: What are some of the top features you can learn in Boost Your GitHub DX?
Adam describes how the book highlights UI and CLI tricks, deep dives into the GitHub CLI, and practical workflows that let developers do more with less time, including tips to automate common tasks.
Freelancing & Community - Andrew Miller
Q: What are your feelings about the current freelancing landscape?
Miller expresses cautious optimism but advises against new freelancers entering the field without substantial experience, due to the challenges they may face.
