  • Love a a bit of reminiscing

Love it. Especially the old soap stars. At times, I think it’d be better to let the guest talk though and sound could sometimes be better.

  • Wonderful guests but stop interrupting

The host is always so keen to prove how knowledgeable they are (it seems on everything known to man) that they constantly interrupt and talk loudly over the guest. I don’t know how some guests keep their cool with such rudeness. So smug.

The level of guests though is amazing and lovely to hear people from my childhood

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Coming Soon - Exclusive New Drama - The President and the Emperor - Here's Clifton Truman Daniel who plays his grandfather President Harry S Truman in conversation with Ashley Byrne
Q: How does the show handle the balance between accuracy and dramaturgy?
The show strives for accuracy through detailed footnotes and research, but accepts artistic license in dialogue pacing and language to suit a dramatic narrative and the different cultural backgrounds of the characters.
Coming Soon - Exclusive New Drama - The President and the Emperor - Here's Clifton Truman Daniel who plays his grandfather President Harry S Truman in conversation with Ashley Byrne
Q: What do you hope listeners will take away from the drama?
Listeners should gain an enjoyable experience from a historically grounded program while also learning about the mindsets, contradictions, and negotiations that occurred in US-Japan war rooms, along with the complexity of decisions that shaped the end of World War II.
EXCLUSIVE NEW DRAMA - The President and the Emperor - In Conversation with Sadao Ueda who plays Emperor Hirohito
Q: What do you hope viewers take away from this portrayal and the broader discussion of Japan's wartime history?
It's not about who was right or wrong; it's about understanding the human consequences of nuclear war, recognizing the suffering, and reflecting on how history is told and remembered.
EXCLUSIVE NEW DRAMA - The President and the Emperor - In Conversation with Sadao Ueda who plays Emperor Hirohito
Q: How did you approach portraying him in English without simply imitating a Japanese way of speaking?
I avoided robotic impersonation; reading the Japanese manuscript of the surrender speech was too archaic, so reading in English helped convey the sentiment more clearly while preserving humanity.
EXCLUSIVE NEW DRAMA - The President and the Emperor - In Conversation with Sadao Ueda who plays Emperor Hirohito
Q: Tell us what you knew about Hirohito before taking on the role.
I knew how he sounded from his public speeches and some backstory about the surrender speech, but I didn't know what kind of person he was beyond the public image.
