  • Became a favorite quickly

This podcast quickly contain a favorite for me after just a few episodes. I’m now trying to make my way through The entire series. This is also one of my rare podcast favorites for which I will likely listen to certain episodes multiple times. I like the fact that the host Steve and his different guests, will discuss a very wide range of movies in different genres. And the clever way they choose which movie is they literally roll a die, and that chooses which genre and then they choose a movie i... more

  • The Hardest Working Man in Podcasting!

What started as a movie review podcast has grown to include amazing celebrity interviews and a sub-cast (?) called Hammerama. Listen to one interview with Mr. Turek and you’ll be amazed how he connects with his guests. He seems to surprise even them with his in-depth knowledge of their careers. Terrific!

  • A Welcome And Important Resource For Film Fans!

What started out as a great and heartwarming podcast with Steven and his kids, Ben and Michaela, has grown into a polished, well researched and welcome addition to the film review community at large and the Monster Kid community as well.

Steven's interviews with the stars and creators of yesteryear and more recent films, are important, as we need to get their stories captured and told to a new audience.

Highly recommended podcast for film buffs of all ages and genres!

  • The Turek Family Joins The Podcast Community

Mr. Steve Turek, familiar voice from Monster Kid Radio and The Classic Horrors Club Podcast, has officially joined the podcast community along with his son Ben and daughter Mikaela. Steve knows his movies and now we get to hear from his children and their varying opinions. The format is unique, offering a variety of films chosen by a roll of the die. Awesome start and I look forward to more!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

388 King Kong (1933) w/Frank Dello Stritto
Q: How do you view Kong's portrayal in terms of race and colonialism?
The guest argues that the film isn't inherently racist but reflects the era's colonial mindset; the blame is more on the imperial explorers than on the islanders, and the portrayal can be interpreted through multiple lenses including a critique of colonizers rather than a condemnation of the islanders.
388 King Kong (1933) w/Frank Dello Stritto
Q: What is your opinion on the Spider Pit sequence and whether it was filmed or cut?
The consensus is that the Spider Pit sequence was likely scripted and considered but probably never filmed due to budget constraints and the filmmakers' concerns about pacing, though documentation suggests it existed in script drafts.
386 The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) w/Kevin Slick
Q: So for people that are unfamiliar of your work, what is your work like?
Well, yeah, if you look on Spotify, you'll see under Kevin Slick, you'll see a variety of stuff, including instrumental albums and collaborations with bands.
386 The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) w/Kevin Slick
Q: So anytime I think of a silent movie, I think I got to get a singer-songwriter. How are you doing today, Kevin?
Doing very well.
375 Scream and Scream Again (1970) w/Troy Guinn
Q: What makes the film stand out despite having three separate plotlines and big-name leads with limited screen time together?
The discussion argues that the film's multi-genre approach, quick-witted police procedural sequences, and strong performances (notably Alfred Marks in the police scenes) create an energetic mosaic that keeps the viewer engaged even when the three leads are apart; the editing and pacing help knit the disparate threads into a cohesive, entertaining ride.
