  • Became a favorite quickly

This podcast quickly contain a favorite for me after just a few episodes. I’m now trying to make my way through The entire series. This is also one of my rare podcast favorites for which I will likely listen to certain episodes multiple times. I like the fact that the host Steve and his different guests, will discuss a very wide range of movies in different genres. And the clever way they choose which movie is they literally roll a die, and that chooses which genre and then they choose a movie i... more

  • The Hardest Working Man in Podcasting!

What started as a movie review podcast has grown to include amazing celebrity interviews and a sub-cast (?) called Hammerama. Listen to one interview with Mr. Turek and you’ll be amazed how he connects with his guests. He seems to surprise even them with his in-depth knowledge of their careers. Terrific!

  • The Turek Family Joins The Podcast Community

Mr. Steve Turek, familiar voice from Monster Kid Radio and The Classic Horrors Club Podcast, has officially joined the podcast community along with his son Ben and daughter Mikaela. Steve knows his movies and now we get to hear from his children and their varying opinions. The format is unique, offering a variety of films chosen by a roll of the die. Awesome start and I look forward to more!

375 Scream and Scream Again (1970) w/Troy Guinn
Q: What makes the film stand out despite having three separate plotlines and big-name leads with limited screen time together?
The discussion argues that the film's multi-genre approach, quick-witted police procedural sequences, and strong performances (notably Alfred Marks in the police scenes) create an energetic mosaic that keeps the viewer engaged even when the three leads are apart; the editing and pacing help knit the disparate threads into a cohesive, entertaining ride.
370 The Natural w/Nathan Wilson - Robert Redford Retrospective Part 3
Q: What stood out most about the film's production and lighting?
The guests emphasized the use of natural lighting and shadow to create a timeless look, with specific setups that masked aging and highlighted key emotional beats, making even older technology feel period-appropriate.
347 The Monster That Challenged the World and Golden Age Hollywood Show with Mimi Gibson
Q: How are you doing today, Mimi?
Mimi responds with warmth about the upcoming Golden Age Hollywood Show and reflects on her career and the excitement around meeting fans, along with sharing memories from The Monster That Challenged the World.
351 Green Hell (1940) with Troy Howarth, James Whale Retrospective Series part 16
Q: Can you share any upcoming projects or reflections since last time you spoke?
The guest discusses recent audio commentaries and books, emphasizing ongoing scholarship and new material that situates Green Hell within Whale's career while highlighting opportunities for future restorations and reissues to bring neglected titles back into view.
351 Green Hell (1940) with Troy Howarth, James Whale Retrospective Series part 16
Q: How does the opening set up the characters and tone, and does it succeed?
The opening establishes a promising ensemble setup with well-crafted visuals, but as the story unfolds the balance between comedy, drama, and danger becomes unstable, making it hard for the film to settle into a single clear identity.
