  • Take more pharmaceuticals

I love this show! It’s a podcast funded by Big Pharma for the purposes of telling dermatologists what new drugs they should prescribe. The host does not waste our time by discussing dermatitis triggers, diet, exercise, healthy sunlight exposure, or any of that silly nonsense. It just sticks with the tried-and-true method of putting chemicals in our bodies to treat symptoms. Trust the science! More episodes, please!

Challenging Recycled Dogma: Fine-Tuning Accuracy to Improve Patient Care
Q: Can you walk us through how you might use insulin for keloids and what to monitor?
You'd inject a diluted short-acting insulin intralesionally, much like corticosteroids, with sessions every two to three weeks for four to six visits. You monitor for reduced lesion size and potential hypoglycemia, recapping that while insulin may not beat steroids in every outcome, it has fewer adverse events and may improve pigmentation, making it a compelling option in select patients.
Challenging Recycled Dogma: Fine-Tuning Accuracy to Improve Patient Care
Q: What is one example of a dogma you'd challenge in dermatology that could change clinical practice?
One example is the belief that lichen planus is commonly associated with hepatitis C. New data show that only a small fraction of cases are linked to hepatitis C, so clinicians should broaden their differential and consider other etiologies and malignancy risk in diffuse presentations.
How to Manage Acne From the Start: Practical Tips on Integrating Newer Topical Approaches
Q: How do you approach follow-up to maintain momentum and confirm the regimen is working?
I schedule follow-ups from two months onward to reassess progress, discuss any barriers to adherence, and adjust the plan as needed to keep patients engaged and on track.
How to Manage Acne From the Start: Practical Tips on Integrating Newer Topical Approaches
Q: Lisa, what additional tips do you have for treating younger patients and improving adherence when using multiple therapies?
I emphasize shared decision making, lay out all options, and ensure patients and parents understand how and when to use each product, tailoring the plan to what matters most to them such as tolerability and speed of efficacy.
Navigating the Twists and Turns: From Residency Training to Department Chair with Several Stops In Between
Q: What do you find challenging about your new position?
Dr. Ferris mentions the need to unite the department and engage everyone in the strategic vision while ensuring no silos develop.
