It’s nice to hear the different perspectives from the experts that come on. Learned a couple things that I would usually have to wait for a 20 group to hear about.

  • Awesome!!

It’s great to listen to a all Powersports dealer podcast. Im a co owner/gm of a family owned dealership which has been in business since 1964 (which it’s one son and me). I’ve been working at the dealership for 14 years starting in Financing and then in 2014 becoming a stockholder. Looking forward to hearing more episodes!! Two thumbs up!!

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Throwback: Why the Best Dealers Learn From Outside the Industry | Tristan Wright, The Business Sherpa
Q: What is a Business Sherpa?
A Business Sherpa is someone who helps business leaders reach their goals by providing external perspective, guidance from proven paths, and strategies drawn from both within and outside their industry, much like a mountaineering guide would help climbers ascend Everest.
1,200 Used Bikes a Year, No Dealer Fees, and a Second Store in 120 Days: Inside Lucky U Cycles with Jeremy Coon
Q: What advice would you give someone considering a second store or a major expansion?
Have a strong, scalable blueprint, hire great people, and be prepared to lead by example. Align inventory strategy, pricing discipline, and community marketing to sustain growth across multiple locations without micromanagement.
1,200 Used Bikes a Year, No Dealer Fees, and a Second Store in 120 Days: Inside Lucky U Cycles with Jeremy Coon
Q: Can you explain the no dealer fees approach and how you make the math work for your business?
No dealer fees simplifies the close and aligns with our value proposition. We cover admin tasks through a small fee that includes tag/title work and occasional delivery, keeping the pricing transparent and competitive.
1,200 Used Bikes a Year, No Dealer Fees, and a Second Store in 120 Days: Inside Lucky U Cycles with Jeremy Coon
Q: What is your pricing philosophy for used inventory and how do you decide when to adjust prices across stores?
Pricing is driven by a combination of data from MotoHunt, average listing price across the country, market demand, and specific bike attributes. We constantly monitor leads and photos, and adjust to stay competitive without sitting on bikes too long.
1,200 Used Bikes a Year, No Dealer Fees, and a Second Store in 120 Days: Inside Lucky U Cycles with Jeremy Coon
Q: You built the Wildwood operation around pre-owned bikes. Why did you choose that model, and how did sourcing evolve over the years?
The shift started after 2003 with strong new-bike sales, but the market tightened during COVID which accelerated the move to pre-owned. We now source from multiple channels including trades, auctions, NPA, and other dealers, using data to optimize what and where we buy.
