Join a Marine Veteran, a film critic, and a theater director as they laugh, argue, and explore the history of humanity's triumphs and tragedies through war films old and new. War is Hell. People make films about it. And we love to talk about them.

This episode was supposed to be...checks notes...The Manchurian Candidate! But since we have been on hiatus for a while, we decided to change it up and pick a film that we know the audience has been waiting for, and that at least one of us would have... more
Half stoic war epic and half frustrating courtroom melodrama, this early Kubrick film proved unassumingly controversial upon its release in comparison with the auteur’s later works.

Well, this one hardly needs an introduction and is as epic and sweeping as it gets. This is a film we have been wanting to cover for over two years, and finally the stars aligned. It is on just about every cinephile and film industry professional’s t... more
A lot can (and has) been said about this film. It's one of the very few that might actually achieve the status of "anti-war" film, or at least refrains from glamorizing it. It can't be accused of inaccuracy or overt messaging, because it is admittedl... more
Buckle up, Danger Close fans! We went way off the usual list this time and chose a Disney renaissance film that is also decidedly a war film. From the training scenes, to the battles, to a glorious last minute rescue of the emperor, Mulan fits most o... more
Here’s part two of Dan’s interview with Fig and RePete from the podcast So There I Was!

Enjoy the podcast. Hoping that you get to Hamburger Hill soon!
Very good, in-depth look at war movies. Much more than a scene by scene breakdown of a film, but an objective discussion about the film, the production, the themes and objectives of each film relative to the subject matter and the environment they were made in, and made to represent.
I look forward to each episode after binging the exisiting episode library.
If you like war movies, this is definitely the place to be! I love the dynamic backgrounds from the hosts that all come to the films from a different perspective, but they are all related to the material discussed: a film critic, a military veteran, and a theater actor and director. So, you really get a great mix of from different areas of expertise. Absolutely worth checking out!
But close, hosts are just ok.Count on them not liking much. The woman is especially out of place. But let’s face it there isn’t much available in this genre.
Worth listening to for free definitely not going to pay for premium. Call it 2 1/2 stars
If you are on the fence, give this podcast a listen. Great personalities and great discussions are the hallmark of Danger Close. Dan, KT, and Liam share their knowledge, humor and insights. I always look forward to each new episode. I am a proud Patreon supporter.
This is an amazing podcast. Every other week the three hosts, a military vet, a film critic, and a theater director watch a war film then critique it, both as a film in its social context and - when appropriate - how accurately it portrays the historical events depicted.
When we think about war films we often think of movies like "The Dirty Dozen". But war films are explored much more broadly. For example, the anime classic "Grave of the Fireflies" is the subject of one of their early works.

A fantastic podcast with three entertaining hosts looking at the whole gamut of what war films can be with unending grace and class. I don't know of a single other movie podcast that has crowd sourced experts giving the hosts guidance on each new film. If you're tired of the same old war movie podcast give this a try.

They review battle of algiers without even mentioning Fanon. Bunch of boojie crackers with no idea about the real world. Go read Fanon. Engage with the cinema instead of wondering why there is no richocet effects. Your minds have been plagued by capitalist Hollywood.
Love their take on war films and even their take on more.... not natural war films like Independence Day!
Was totally bummed when beandad broke out and friendly fire was ended. But alas, another war movie review podcast! Great hosts, funny, entertaining and snazzy! Thanks y’all, looking forward to more!
just found them a few months ago. love the show, great conversational flow between hosts. look forward to every episode and love their variety of knowledge of film. their personalities gel beautifully, and it's obvious they love the art form of film.
These guys had me hooked once I listened to the first episode. They don’t just examine the film as a film but present the history displayed in the film and explain what accuracies and inaccuracies exist. Definitely worth a listen.
