  • Good content/awful production

I just listened to the Chris Voss episode and it was almost unlistenable because of the background noise. Something was too close to the hosts mic and making a ton of noise when Chris was talking. It was awful.

Primal Intelligence: Your Superpower AI Can't Touch w/ Angus Fletcher
Q: Angus, describe Primal Intelligence and the four processes at a high level.
Primal Intelligence is the brain's ability to act intelligently with limited information; it contrasts with computers that depend on abundant data. It emphasizes storytelling, planning, and the capacity to imagine future scenarios as a core driver of intelligent action. The four processes provide a framework for how humans craft effective actions in low-information environments, drawing from neuroscience, Shakespearean storytelling, and military practice to understand how to design plans that work in volatile conditions.
How to Build Your Retail Team
Q: How should a founder approach conversations with retailers about private label vs. branded products?
Understand retailer expectations for marketing, pricing parity, and the potential impact on margins; be ready to justify a branded strategy with a clear plan to market and promote the product to drive consumer demand.
How to Build Your Retail Team
Q: What is the first fractional executive a founder should hire, depending on their stage?
It depends on scale; often a marketing leader is needed to establish consumer messaging and pull through, but for some brands a CFO or supply chain expert is the initial hire to stabilize cash and operations.
How to Build Your Retail Team
Q: What's the going cost of a full-time VP of Sales in a growing CPG company?
A full-time VP of Sales typically costs $250,000 to $300,000 in salary plus benefits and bonuses, which is why many founders look to fractional executives for a lower-cost, scalable alternative.
27 Rules That Change How You Build a CPG Brand
Q: What were some of the biggest questions you had prior to reading the book that the book answered for you?
The guests explain that they were unsure about the entire retail path and the value of TV advertising, but the book provided a landscape and blueprint, clarifying how retail works and helping them assess readiness, while also offering a gut-check on whether they're truly ready to scale.
