  • Golden information for dog training

I lost count a long time ago for how many times I have recommended both the podcast and the book, Controlled Aggression. No other book or podcast clearly outlines all the details from basic to complex with regards to these types of dogs and the training. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Introduction to Kynology With Dr. Stewart Hilliard
Q: What implications do you think force-free training advocates have on dog ownership?
These advocates suggest that dog owners should protect their pets from all stress, which is unrealistic; instead, owners should equip their dogs to handle the stresses of life, as stress is inevitable.
Introduction to Kynology With Dr. Stewart Hilliard
Q: What do you believe is one of the reasons why there's a large literature on the use of punishment that's been ignored in favor of the positive reinforcement side?
There's a large literature on aversive control that has often been misinterpreted or improperly defined in dog training contexts; many studies do not adequately establish causality due to their correlational nature, which leads to misguided conclusions against the use of aversives.
Learning to Adapt with K9s Talking Scents, Cameron Ford
Q: What advice would you give to detection dog handlers?
Handlers should learn to leave their dogs alone during searches to avoid becoming overly involved and hindering the dog's performance.
