  • The premier film listening experience

Love this podcast - offers lots of great insight into how a film is the way it is from two great perspectives. I’ve learned a lot about films I haven’t seen in ages and films I need to watch.

  • Excellent film discussion

I discovered this show a few weeks ago with its Jaws episode and have been voraciously consuming the back catalog ever since. In a sea of film podcasts it’s hard to find one that stands out, but the conversations Dan and Jared have are more thoughtful and entertaining than a lot of the shows out there. Their guests are awesome and always bring even more fun and knowledge to the show. After only a few episodes I knew the show was going to bump something else from my podcast rotation. • If you love movies, this is a must-listen!

I’ve listened to a lot of film podcasts over the years and the chemistry between the two and how much energy they bring into. The podcast is hard to not appreciate.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 118 - Gremlins (1984) w/ The Gremlins Museum
Q: Why do you think Gremlins has endured across generations and media?
The discussion centers on the duality of Gizmo's innocence and the anarchic gremlins, a blend that mirrors enduring themes in American pop culture, and the hands-on craftsmanship that makes the puppets feel alive even decades later.
Ep 118 - Gremlins (1984) w/ The Gremlins Museum
Q: What first drew you to Gremlins and led you to create The Gremlins Museum?
Ian describes a lifelong fascination with the puppets, the practical effects, and a serendipitous path from collecting to curating an extensive archive that includes rare props and behind-the-scenes material.
Ep 112 - Hereditary (2018) w/ MANHANDS
Q: Matt, since you're our guest, what's a movie that you think would go very well hand in hand with this one, or shares a lot of the same DNA?
I mean, the obvious answer is the other Ari Aster films. But I won't go there. I think early on we were talking about this idea of staying in a moment long after other films would cut away. The obvious thing that comes to mind is Inarritu's The Revenant, which is a film that is nothing like Hereditary, but shares that one aspect.
Ep 64 - Terrifier 2 (2022)
Q: What have you picked up lately?
Jared discusses a range of books and films he has seen recently, highlighting 'A Different Man' starring Sebastian Stan and a book titled 'Conclave' by Robert Harris.
Ep 64 - Terrifier 2 (2022)
Q: What ripped your scalp off and poured salt and bleach directly into your exposed skull this week?
Dan discusses his reflections on Werner Herzog's memoir, emphasizing its philosophical musings and his thoughts on existence.
