Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars from 6 ratings
  • Excellent insights into an unknown world

Plant breeding is not on most people’s radar, even though we all eat plants that are the results of breeding efforts every day. This is an interesting look into this world’s research forefront and of machine learning applied to it. Highly recommended!

Initial data scoping, a slide-deck overview, live demos, training sessions, and ongoing support with customer feedback driving feature development.
Breeding in 3D: Welcome to the Pangenome
Q: How did you end up in plant bioinformatics?
The guest describes an accidental path into the field after pursuing biology and then finding an interest in bioinformatics through a course, leading to work in plant genomics.
From Genes to Farmers’ Fields: The Complex World of Potato Breeding
Q: What is Pomorrow trying to unlock?
Pomorrow aims to genotype and phenotype a large gene-bank collection to build a core set that represents diversity, enabling predictive breeding and better adaptation to future stressors.
From Genes to Farmers’ Fields: The Complex World of Potato Breeding
Q: What is IPMorama aiming to achieve?
IPMorama seeks to create a practice ecosystem for integrated pest management in Europe, combining virulence monitoring, resistant varieties, and stakeholder outreach to reduce reliance on chemical controls.
From Genes to Farmers’ Fields: The Complex World of Potato Breeding
Q: How does potato differ from other crops in terms of breeding?
Potato is tetraploid and vegetatively propagated, leading to many more chromosome copies, slower breeding cycles, and a high number of potential parent combinations that complicate selection.
