Sociologists discuss the horror film Immaculate especially as it compares to The First Omen.
Red Rooms (Plante 2023)
Marshall Smith, PhD, and Laura Patterson, PhD, offer a sociological discussion of the 2023 film Red Rooms. Ostensibly this is a film about the dark web phenomemon of the titular red rooms. Oddly, the film did not actually of... more
Nosferatu (Eggers 2024)
The film is gorgeous. It is well acted. Unfortunately, Eggers seems to be moving toward the strain of modern horror directors who are style without substance. And or sytle without ethical substance. Eggers appears to be will... more
Cruising (Friedkin 1980)
This episode is dedicated in loving memory of our dear friend Matt Brown, PhD. You lived unabashedly out and gay. You loved cruising and the scene. And you always had a unique perspective. We would have loved to hear your t... more
Real weird take to be disappointed that they didn’t show more of the rape in Revenge and even weirder to tell your female co-host that her opinion on if rape is worse than being chucked off a cliff is wrong
Too bad the male host is such a goon, this is an interesting idea for a podcast
It was really fun listening to some of the breakdowns of my favorite films. I will have to rewatch Poltergeist and some other classics after listening. Great insights, banter, perspective, and light hearted hosts. Fun! Thank you👀☠️
Meh. I’m really surprised these are PhDs and in SOCIOLOGY. I have a hard time not making ageist inner monologue against them, because they seem like they got their PhDs in 1984. Maybe Colorado is a bit more... behind? Let’s say ‘more flexible’ than most programs (which isn’t bad—we don’t all have to be SJWs—but it’s sociology! I was shocked). High point: The Lodge, where our female cohost explains her dissatisfaction. — Low point: Midsommar, where our male cohost explains his dissatisfacti... more
I am so impressed by how smart these two PhD‘s are. I am always humbled by my own intellectual prowess, which I thought was super cool, until I listen to these guys. I watch almost all their movies before I listen to the podcast and I am always impressed by what they put out. Thoughtful, personally revealing, intentional and provocative. I will keep them on my list until podcast become something else and then I’m sure I will follow them after that!
I’m constantly trying to figure out which one i... more
This podcast is great because it will entertain you while making you smarter and more socially aware. They recommend watching the film associated with each episode, but honestly, it’s always interesting even if you don’t know the film references. I’m a long time horror fan and this podcast has given me a better understanding of why.
