Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ojai Film Society (Free Summer Series) - Nicholas Weissman & Brady Hahn
Q: What is the website?
ojafilmsociety.org, and the series is free to attend.
Magic Hour - Director / co-writer / co-lead actor Katie Aselton
Q: How did technological changes influence how Magic Hour was made?
Advances in affordable digital cameras allowed a more cinematic look on a modest budget, enabling the team to shoot with a minimal crew and still achieve a lush aesthetic, which aligned with their guerrilla filmmaking spirit.
Magic Hour - Director / co-writer / co-lead actor Katie Aselton
Q: Where did this idea come from?
The idea arose after a long break from directing; it was a moment of wanting to return to making a film with a smaller, scrappy crew, drawing inspiration from the earlier Puffy Chair and the ethos it represented.
Find Your Friends - Director Izabel Pakzad
Q: What were your thoughts in bringing these particular actors into this conversation, and how did you know they would embody the film's bold vision?
I was a fan of each of them from their other works and believed they understood the bold, unapologetic nature of the script, delivering performances that felt raw, honest, and essential to the film's point about female agency under pressure.
Find Your Friends - Director Izabel Pakzad
Q: At what point did you put pen to paper, and at what point did you know you had this kind of film you wanted to make?
It was loosely inspired by true events from a Joshua Tree trip; the seed came from a traumatizing incident during a car chase, which I used to shape the characters and the escalating danger while aiming to center a group of women who navigate that pressure with resilience.
