四諦法門──苦諦、集諦、滅諦、道諦，依這四種真理修行，就能解脫生死證阿羅漢果。「苦諦」是人生的真理，想要覺悟第一步就要「知苦」。眾生在迷，以苦為樂，知苦才會想要離苦。修習佛法要以苦諦為根本，因為這個世界如果沒有苦，佛法再好，眾生沒有苦的逼迫為緣，也不容易發起修行的信心。
佛法提到人道眾生分住於四大部洲──南贍部洲、東勝身洲、西牛貨洲、北俱盧洲。我們這個世界屬於南贍部洲，因為有苦的逼迫，能精進勇猛修行，所以值佛聞法的因緣於四洲中最為殊勝。而北俱盧洲的人則是福樂最勝，有福報又長... more

苦諦是一種真理。沒有一個眾生能逃得過八苦。不知道用功修行，人生就是八苦交煎，明白此理就要知苦，檢討反省自己現在有沒有這八苦？知苦以後，進一步推究，這苦從什麼地方來？不是父母、閻王或菩薩給的，它是從「集」產生出來的。所謂「有此則有彼，無此則無彼，此生則彼生，此滅則彼滅。」這是因緣果報的關係，「集」就是由過去與現在的因所產生。假使沒有因一定沒有果。「有此則有彼」，「此」─有這麼一個因，「彼」─一定有這麼一個果報。「有此則有彼，無此則無彼」，沒有因，絕對沒有果，有因一定會感果。「此生則... more
