佛說人生有八苦：生、老、病、死、求不得、愛別離、怨憎會、五陰熾盛苦。「生苦」，小孩一出胎就開始哭喊，因為胎兒在母親肚子裡的世界與外界不同，一出生，接觸的環境不一樣。嬰兒的皮膚很嫩，大人的手很粗，被碰觸到就很痛，風、空氣、冷熱、接觸，產生出種種痛苦，一生下來就是生苦，所以會哭喊。再者，生的時候萬一難產，生下來時母親也死了，這是不是苦上加苦？未生之前，在母親肚子裡，十月懷胎就像胎獄，「獄」就是牢獄，在胎中像是坐了十個月的監牢。胎獄裡有什麼苦呢？例如，母親吃冰下去，胎兒感覺像冰天雪地般凍得好... more

《佛垂般涅槃略說教誡經》云：「日可令冷，月可令熱，佛說四諦，不可令異。」日就是太陽，即使能把太陽的光與熱變冷，把月亮的清冷變熱，四諦是宇宙人生的真理，不可能變動。例如:四諦中的苦諦，提到生、老、病、死苦，這就是不變的真理。所以修行，第一要先了解苦諦、集諦、滅諦、道諦的道理及因果關係。

「常行二百五十戒，進止清淨，為四真道行，成阿羅漢。」就禪宗而言，理上識心達本稱之為開悟，悟後起修，又是一段工夫。悟後起修第一步，常行比丘二百五十戒，出家眾以戒為根本，如禪宗祖師所說：「持戒第一，參禪為先」。不明究理的人，誤以為只打坐、明心見性就好了，至於持戒就不須注意，認為禪宗的人不持戒，這是錯誤的觀念。識心達本就是真正的禪，修行的過程就如同造七層寶塔，識心達本就是最高的那一層，要想達到最高層，必須從最下面那一層做起，先把地基鞏固，地基就是戒行，要把二百五十條戒持清淨。戒就是別解脫，「... more

「佛言：辭親出家，識心達本，解無為法，名曰沙門。常行二百五十戒，進止清淨，為四真道行，成阿羅漢。」要想做一個真正的出家眾，就要「識心達本」，進一步還要「解無為法」，又能識心達本，又能了解無為法，這樣就可稱為真正的沙門，沙門就是出家修道的人。「識心達本，解無為法」這兩句話通大乘、小乘。無為法就是菩提心、涅槃性，所以無為就是要證到涅槃的境界。涅槃有四種：有餘涅槃、無餘涅槃、無住涅槃、自性清淨涅槃，這四種都屬於無為法，此章所講的無為法，所證得的是有餘涅槃和無餘涅槃，因為這裡所講的是四向四果，... more
