  • Adoptee here

I'm a 62 yo baby scoop adoptee with a story of my own from being an adoptee to reunion to trying to get my original birth certificate. I've learned a lot listening to your guests. It has helped me come out the fog myself even at my age. The recent encore just hit me the genetic mirroring part I didn't even know was a "thing" with a name. I just know how I felt. Thanks for the education we are never to old to learn

  • Love the Podcast, but too many ENCORE episodes lately

Love the two of you, love your content, love your guests. Want to see this podcast flourish! But I am afraid all these ENCORE episodes will stand in the way of that. I think they’re okay on a holiday week, or when you’ve told people there will be one ahead of time. But it’s disappointing to be looking forward to the week’s episode and see another ENCORE come up instead.

  • Bri Wilson

This person’s story is outrageous and impossible. She has clearly combined the lives and experiences of her two favorite teen moms and concocted her own story to be both relatable to both of you. Unless her life went like an episode of Law and Order, her “abuser’s” trial beginning and ending while she wasn’t even seven months pregnant, going into a shelter that somehow turned into a mental health facility, to TWO different foster homes, and then adopted, while she still has bio parents and gra... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dr. Kristin Kirkland: When Adoption and Human Trafficking Intersect
Q: What is the definition of human trafficking and how does it compare to private infant adoption in America?
Trafficking is defined by obtaining a person through force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of exploitation; when a minor is involved in adoption, the act is already qualified even without proving other subtypes, and the discussion centers on coercion and identity exploitation rather than simple separation.
Young Grandma Amber Boone: Escaping Domestic Abuse & Blended Family Dynamics (PART 1)
Q: How did Amber end her first abusive relationship and begin rebuilding?
Amber details planning an exit at age 19, leaving with her two young children, and navigating a period of uncertainty before establishing a new home and support system with family and friends. The escape is framed as a critical turning point toward safety and independence.
Young Grandma Amber Boone: Escaping Domestic Abuse & Blended Family Dynamics (PART 1)
Q: What happened in Amber's early life that shaped her worldview?
Amber describes traumatic incidents beginning with a Doberman attack, abuse by her father, and a chaotic, disciplinary-heavy childhood that influenced her later relationships and parenting. She highlights the impact of testifying in court and the long-term sense of distrust toward institutions.
ENCORE Dr. Abby Hasberry: Navigating Adoption as an Adoptee and Birth Mother
Q: What changes would you like to see in adoption practices to better support families and individuals involved?
Greater emphasis on informed consent, trauma-informed counseling for all parties, and policies that reduce coercion and commodification in adoption.
ENCORE Dr. Abby Hasberry: Navigating Adoption as an Adoptee and Birth Mother
Q: Can you describe your adoption journey and how you arrived at open versus closed adoption?
I was open to both possibilities but became part of a closed adoption and later moved toward open contact as I processed the trauma and sought a healthier path for my child and myself.
