  • Just the info I was looking for on the PA-46 Malibu

Such a great show for those looking at the PA-46 as an option. There is so much to consider when considering whether the upgrade to one of the variants is in order and Joe’s show really goes through all the questions I have had so far. Would definitely recommend!

  • Joe Casey is very informative

I have now listened to all of Joe’s podcasts (they keep coming though!). Several I’ve listened to more than once … intentionally! He has a smooth and positive style that makes you feel like you know him. He seems candid with his thoughts and is clearly very knowledgeable about his topics.

I am a Cirrus owner who would like to jump to the PA46 one day soon. Listening to Joe’s podcasts has helped me to understand the process and learn much more about the steps to accomplish my goals.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

PA-46 Q&A: Fuel Sumping, Power Limits, Props, and Buyer Advice
Q: Ray's question about water in fuel and sump practices for M600 and turbine engines, and whether Prist is always needed.
Water in turbine fuel is present but not as hazardous as water in avgas; sump practices differ for turbine engines, and Prist is recommended to defend against icing, but not all operators use it uniformly. Ensure fuel caps seal, sump near maintenance, and follow Prist guidance for long flights or high altitude legs.
PA-46 Q&A: Fuel Sumping, Power Limits, Props, and Buyer Advice
Q: How should pilots use torque, ITT, and NG limits when setting power, and why does the POH often misguide turbine operators?
Torque and temperature limits drive power setting; ITT becomes the limiting factor at altitude and temperature, and some aircraft may become NG or airspeed limited. The POH is not always reliable, so pilots should trust gauge limits and trend monitors while following manufacturer guidance.
PA-46 Q&A: Fuel Sumping, Power Limits, Props, and Buyer Advice
Q: Dave asked about the JetPROP outboard tanks and the implications of filling to the bottom of the tabs versus the tops, and what happens if start-up is delayed.
Filling to the bottom of the tabs helps accommodate fuel expansion in sunlit conditions; you can fill beyond, but if you delay start-up, fuel will vent and you risk leaking; overall, you should avoid overfilling and plan a timely takeoff to prevent fuel loss.
Pitch Trim Runaway: Fighting for Control
Q: What is a pitch trim runaway and why is it so dangerous?
It is a malfunction where the pitch trim servo moves the elevator aggressively in one direction, overpowering the pilot's ability to manually control the aircraft, especially under autopilot influence, making rapid and decisive action essential.
Ask Me Anything: PA-46 Tips, Turbine Secrets & Weather Wisdom
Q: Dave asks about pulling the P3 circuit breaker during ground power to avoid icing and electrical load issues.
Yes, for long ground or avionics updates, pulling the P3 air circuit breaker can save battery power and prevent icing/probe heat issues; ensure you push it back in afterward and be mindful of windshield and pitot heat settings to avoid damage when ground power is used.
