  • Episode Twodoubletutu

I listen to many podcasts, but I am almost as religious with the CarDealer as I am with the Archers (I never ever miss an episode of the everyday story of country folk). On a few occasions, I have been moved to send you a comment, generally an adulation. Most recently, you were late back from your jollies and I was wondering if you were okay or being held by customs with

a non-compliant Jimney Cricket. But never quite get there, why do you think that is JJ? Well, super heinouser than enforced ... more

  • Stories are good

Used to be better, spends most of the podcast talking to the guest these days, my advise would be fast forward to halfway or the last 1/3 if you want to get to the stories. If they spent more time on stories it would be a great podcast.

  • Awkward at times

The thing that saves the show is the industry guests that come on. However so often they don’t get a chance to speak and are left to quietly sit in the background while the hosts rabbit on. I really want to hear from them to be honest. A great opportunity missed.

I feel for Beck. She’s been tirelessly doing her best to host the show but is clearly uncomfortable behind the mic. I actually feel uncomfortable when she speaks to a guest. You may want to look at shaking things up.

Vertu's mystery investor revealed, Cherys could be made in Sunderland, and why drivers are falling in love with Chinese cars – with Damien Dally, episode 261
Q: Does Leap Motor have a clear brand MO and where does it fit within Stellantis' portfolio?
Leap Motor positions itself around taking the leap to electric, focusing on value, simplicity, and a high level of standard tech, while leveraging Stellantis' brand and dealer infrastructure for credibility and reach.
ZEV mandate could be chopped, Yeomans revenue up after Chinese brand expansion, and JLR targets cost-cutting – with Simon Shield, episode 263
Q: What are your thoughts on whether Chinese brands will sustain their current surge in popularity?
Simon argues that while Chinese cars are technically advanced and well-priced, true loyalty will depend on long-term quality, service, and how brands maintain identity; the panel agrees that a mix of brand perception, aftersales, and internet presence will determine long-term success.
ZEV mandate could be chopped, Yeomans revenue up after Chinese brand expansion, and JLR targets cost-cutting – with Simon Shield, episode 263
Q: But what does it actually mean for the industry if the ZEV target is cut from 80% to 50%?
The consensus is that the change would be welcomed by some unions and green lobbyists for political reasons, but industry stakeholders worry about consistency and planning; ultimately, the hosts believe consumer choice should drive the market rather than mandates, and that the long-term trend toward EVs will continue as manufacturers invest and adapt.
'Ghost car' finance fraud uncovered, Blue Motor Finance rumoured to be exiting, and Nissan to adjust Sunderland production – with Andrew Edmiston, episode 257
Q: What is your take on the current FCA redress scheme and its impact on the middle market finance players?
He argues the scheme is unwieldy and costly, but the industry should move on; simplification and stability are key, and the FCA's approach has created a difficult working environment for mid-market financiers.
'Ghost car' finance fraud uncovered, Blue Motor Finance rumoured to be exiting, and Nissan to adjust Sunderland production – with Andrew Edmiston, episode 257
Q: How do you view the rise of Chinese brands in Europe and the UK specifically?
He explains that emissions regulations and the European push toward electrification created a window for Chinese brands to gain ground, while European manufacturers faced competitive pressures; the dynamic is ongoing and requires careful strategy across markets.
