  • Episode Twodoubletutu

I listen to many podcasts, but I am almost as religious with the CarDealer as I am with the Archers (I never ever miss an episode of the everyday story of country folk). On a few occasions, I have been moved to send you a comment, generally an adulation. Most recently, you were late back from your jollies and I was wondering if you were okay or being held by customs with

a non-compliant Jimney Cricket. But never quite get there, why do you think that is JJ? Well, super heinouser than enforced ... more

  • Stories are good

Used to be better, spends most of the podcast talking to the guest these days, my advise would be fast forward to halfway or the last 1/3 if you want to get to the stories. If they spent more time on stories it would be a great podcast.

  • Awkward at times

The thing that saves the show is the industry guests that come on. However so often they don’t get a chance to speak and are left to quietly sit in the background while the hosts rabbit on. I really want to hear from them to be honest. A great opportunity missed.

I feel for Beck. She’s been tirelessly doing her best to host the show but is clearly uncomfortable behind the mic. I actually feel uncomfortable when she speaks to a guest. You may want to look at shaking things up.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jaguar Rebrand: Mistake or Genius? – Episode 1, The Journalists’ View
Q: Was the marketing strategy worth the risk for Jaguar?
Most guests argued it was a calculated gamble that generated enormous publicity and brand dialogue, even if some felt the approach risked alienating the existing customer base; the consensus leaned toward it being a bold, highly publicized strategy with mixed long-term outcomes.
Jaguar Rebrand: Mistake or Genius? – Episode 1, The Journalists’ View
Q: What made Jaguar's relaunch campaign so controversial in the first place?
Journalists attributed the backlash to a bold, culture-war–tinged presentation that seemed to rewind Jaguar's heritage into a new, glittering, polarizing direction, prompting debate over whether the brand should chase woke marketing or stay anchored to its traditional audience.
FCA crackdown on sale or return, Jaecoo 7 tops sales charts, and Motorpoint back in profit – with Clive Messenger, episode 253
Q: What is your take on the FCA's focus on sale-or-return, and how might dealers respond to new expectations?
The panel weighs the need for clearer frameworks and risk controls, noting the complexity of applying a uniform standard across very different vehicles and deal types, and suggests some form of structured funding and ownership clarity as a possible solution, while acknowledging it remains a grey area.
Jaguar boss Rawdon Glover on that relaunch – Jaguar Rebrand: Mistake or Genius Ep.3
Q: So in terms of your question, we've got to remember what we were trying to do, and the context that Jaguar was in at that time.
We were repositioning Jaguar to be more commercially viable by focusing on a tighter, higher-end range and moving upmarket to a price point where the brand could compete with premium OEMs, while still maintaining a connection to heritage.
Peter Waddell in court, Polestar boss hails 'renaissance of the dealers', and latest on finance redress scheme – with Mike Askew, episode 244
Q: When it comes to buying new cars online, purely without seeing a dealer, what's your take on it? Would you do it?
No, I don't think I would. I believe there is still a significant value in physical dealers and the knowledgeable interaction they provide.
