Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bugs and Citizen Science
Q: What are some other ways bug enthusiasts can get involved from home or with minimal equipment?
People can transcribe old field notes or insect labels on platforms like Digivol, participate in simple observation projects like photographing easily photographed insects, and engage in citizen science that requires just a jar and a net in the yard, making science accessible to kids and beginners.
Bugs and Citizen Science
Q: What are bioblitzes?
Bioblitzes are organized events where a local museum or nature center gathers people to take photos and observations (often on iNaturalist) to create a survey of living things in a defined area over a period of time.
Bugs and Citizen Science
Q: So Christy, for folks who don't know, what do we mean by Citizen Science just broadly?
Citizen Science is a movement that enables people who aren't formally trained in science to participate and contribute observations and data in ways that scientists alone don't have time for, across disciplines including entomology, space, and health.
Fireflies
Q: So Christy, besides being one of your favorite bugs, what exactly are fireflies and how many kinds are there?
Christy explains that fireflies are beetles, with around 2,000 species globally, and describes their life cycle and predatory larvae, clarifying how metamorphosis is common among many insects.
Why People and Museums Collect Bugs
Q: What are some of the other reasons that come to mind for why people collect bugs, beyond professional research?
People collect out of deep love for the natural world, and collections often reflect a spectrum from generalist curiosity to specialist interests, with well-documented specimens serving as records of biodiversity over time.
