Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Alchemy of Biologica
Q: What challenges did you face in communicating science to customers and doctors?
Bridging the gap between OB-GYNs/naturopathic doctors and consumer-ready messaging required distilling research into short, elevator-pitch formats while maintaining accuracy and trust.
The Alchemy of Biologica
Q: What inspired the creation of Biologica and its stage-based approach?
A personal health journey during her 40s revealed that women experience distinct hormonal life stages with different nutrient needs, so a single generic supplement wasn't adequate; the goal was to simplify while addressing both long-term and acute symptoms.
Building a Brand from Scratch: Lessons in Growth and Innovation
Q: How did you approach distribution and channel strategy, especially post-COVID?
We started with campus channels due to limited resources, which built strong data and relationships with food service players. When COVID hit, we leaned into D2C and retail, realizing the V-shaped recovery would require online presence and broad retail distribution; this shift helped sustain the business and expand to mass retailers like Costco.
Building a Brand from Scratch: Lessons in Growth and Innovation
Q: What are some of the things you and your co-founders took from big corporate that helped you launch AWAKE?
We carried management discipline around gross margins, price-to-profit insights, and the concept of incremental growth, which helped us communicate the financial upside of carrying our product. We also learned to move quickly and make decisions under ambiguity, avoiding analysis paralysis, and to execute with focus rather than building endless plans.
From Regenerative Farm to National Brand: How Singing Pastures Is Redefining Clean Protein
Q: What inspired the brand name Singing Pastures and its shift from Singing Prairie Farms?
The name change reflected moving from a prairie-based identity to a Maine farm setting, while still honoring the idea that all living beings 'sing' on the farm; the branding emphasizes the ecosystem's vitality and the birds' canaries-in-the-coal-mine role as indicators of soil and grass health.
