  • Enjoyable Programme

Enjoying listening however i would strongly disagree with the commentator during the last extra episode discussing amalgamation of regiments. The commentators stated that the Royal Anglian regiment with it’s two battalion’s don’t have a strong identify like the Guards or Parachute Regiment, this is incorrect The regiment went through an amalgamation of 7 county battalions in the 60’s and became three battalions, this was reduced further in the 90’s to two. Since formation 1 Royal Anglian (The Vi... more

  • Excellent programme, shame about the podcast

The Sitrep programme is excellent and I look forward to the weekly instalments as one of the highlights of my podcasting week. However, the podcast is sometimes a repeat of a previous episode or, in a recent case, a two-minute news flash rather than the programme advertised. Why does no one check this before release?

For example, 13 June 2019 episode has people talking about leaving the EU on 29 March. This is presumably a repeat of an old episode, rather than the one advertised? It’s been a c... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Home or Away – Where’s best for British training of Ukrainian forces?
Q: Does it make sense to move more training back to Ukraine?
Yes, the panel argues it makes sense to localize training to reflect battlefield realities, save travel time, and create a more integrated preparation pipeline for Ukrainian forces, while still having UK-origin expertise come in for specialist instruction.
How the Iran war threatens Ukraine’s fight for survival
Q: Can Western aid be sustained given competing global tensions?
Sustaining aid requires maintaining a clear strategic focus on Ukraine within NATO, avoiding domestic political pressures that could fracture unity, and leveraging economic and industrial mobilization to prevent a total drawdown of critical capabilities.
Royal Navy warship heads to the Middle East
Q: What role do AI and technological advancements play in future defense planning according to the discussion?
AI and real-time data analytics are transforming intelligence and targeting, potentially reshaping how units are deployed and how threats are detected, but they also create new strategic considerations about dependence on technology and the need to maintain human oversight.
Royal Navy warship heads to the Middle East
Q: How might UK-French or broader NATO cooperation shape ongoing operations in the area?
NATO naval and air assets are closely integrated, with the French deploying carrier strike capabilities and Greek frigates joining; cooperation is seen as essential to provide coverage and deterrence while the UK focuses on its available assets.
Royal Navy warship heads to the Middle East
Q: What is the strategic value of deploying a carrier group in this region, and why is it not currently feasible?
A carrier group requires a complete escort package and multiple support ships; given current inventories, two destroyers, two frigates, one submarine, and additional support vessels are not simultaneously available, making a full carrier group impractical at the moment.
