  • Enjoyable Programme

Enjoying listening however i would strongly disagree with the commentator during the last extra episode discussing amalgamation of regiments. The commentators stated that the Royal Anglian regiment with it’s two battalion’s don’t have a strong identify like the Guards or Parachute Regiment, this is incorrect The regiment went through an amalgamation of 7 county battalions in the 60’s and became three battalions, this was reduced further in the 90’s to two. Since formation 1 Royal Anglian (The Vi... more

  • Excellent programme, shame about the podcast

The Sitrep programme is excellent and I look forward to the weekly instalments as one of the highlights of my podcasting week. However, the podcast is sometimes a repeat of a previous episode or, in a recent case, a two-minute news flash rather than the programme advertised. Why does no one check this before release?

For example, 13 June 2019 episode has people talking about leaving the EU on 29 March. This is presumably a repeat of an old episode, rather than the one advertised? It’s been a c... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Royal Navy’s Iran “peace deal” mission explained
Q: How could this operation unfold publicly, and what are the big risks if things go wrong?
There will likely be a flurry of public announcements detailing contributions; the biggest risks are a renewed closure of the Strait due to miscalculation or a flare-up that forces withdrawal, which would undermine credibility and signal weakness to adversaries.
The Royal Navy’s Iran “peace deal” mission explained
Q: What would be the UK and French roles in the initial phase, and what assets would they likely bring to the task?
The expectation is that surface tasking, mapping mines, and mine clearance would be shared or split with France, while Britain would lead with command and control capabilities, supporting mine clearance with its own autonomous systems and contributing to overall protection with allied assets.
The Royal Navy’s Iran “peace deal” mission explained
Q: Mike, what does the memorandum of understanding say about the Strait of Hormuz, and what questions does it leave you with?
It states the Strait will open and outlines a 30-day frame for demining and confidence-building, but it also creates questions about the exact forces, timelines, and how the economic and political concessions will play out, especially given the complexities of multinational participation and future negotiations.
EXTRA – Land ISTAR: The Army’s plan for data-driven dominance
Q: So Matt, will it be incremental in the sense of a gradual capability build or something more revolutionary?
He argues for an incremental, agile approach, delivering initial products and evolving them through ongoing collaboration with soldiers, supported by new funding to scale capabilities over time.
EXTRA – Land ISTAR: The Army’s plan for data-driven dominance
Q: And Matt, just give us some tangible examples of the kind of sensors you're delivering and what information they would provide exactly.
Birch describes drones like Eagle UAS and Corvus delivering wide-area surveillance, with integration into Zodiac to provide real-time targeting information to various command levels across the battlefield, with emphasis on pace, fusion, and interoperability.
