  • Get an education in business strategy

This podcast is like taking a strategy class in a top business school, only better because you’re getting a huge variety of top thinkers to teach the class. Reeves, himself a top-rated strategy thinker and writer, gets the most out of his guests for a simple reasons that eludes many other podcasts: he actually reads the books before he interviews, and you can tell. For those interested in business strategy (and adjacent topics) this is probably the best podcast out there.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Inside the Box with David Epstein
Q: What is the practical value of pre-registering hypotheses for a business?
It helps you avoid data dredging and overfitting by forcing upfront hypotheses and decision rules, which leads to faster, more reliable learning and better pivot decisions.
Inside the Box with David Epstein
Q: How do you set constraints in a way that maximize creativity without killing autonomy?
By defining clear boundaries that guide focus while leaving room for discovery within those boundaries, similar to Apple's store script and Nest's packaging approach, which channel creativity within a framework.
Genius at Scale with Linda A. Hill
Q: Could you elaborate on why leadership is the key to scaling innovation and how the ABCs translate into practical actions?
Hill explains that architects design the culture and capabilities for collaboration, bridgers operate at the boundary to translate across groups and ensure integration, and catalysts build coalitions across stakeholders to move initiatives forward; together they create an environment where experimentation and co-creation can scale beyond isolated labs into the core business.
BHI Presents: Winning the Rest of the 20s
Q: What should leaders do today to future-proof their organizations?
Institutionalize resilience through preparedness, rapid learning, and a proactive reimagination of business models, while building trust and embracing AI as a core capability to drive future value rather than just a tool.
BHI Presents: Winning the Rest of the 20s
Q: Which areas did you miss in your original predictions, and how would you revise going forward?
We missed exogenous shocks and the rapid, broad-reaching impact of technology and social dynamics. Going forward, we'd emphasize more on geopolitical risk, social cohesion, and the human side of AI-driven change, plus a stronger focus on developing a new playbook for exploration and experimentation.
