  • Hosts talk over the guest

Super frustrating hearing the hosts blab over the guests so much. I get that it’s a conversation, but straight up interrupting an interesting guest like Dubois constantly was just nothing to listen to. Sorry.

Would be an interesting time to hear some dialogue. Doesn’t seem to be much hope. Another fickle program that is perhaps too cautious about speaking to the moment?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

BCB 110 - Cleveland Cryptids with Kiernan Laveaux
Q: How did your DJ practice develop from this wild stew?
Kiernan describes learning from peers and mentors, starting with Virtual DJ and Tractor, then gradually shaping a style that blends industrial, dub, and live techno influences, aided by collaborative scenes and a culture of experimentation.
BCB 107 - Into The Field with William Selman
Q: How do you survive as an artist under capitalism?
Bill explains a long-running strategy: maintain a day job (often in tech) to provide financial stability while releasing art on an independent, non-institutional label that prioritizes artistic integrity over commercial success.
BCB 105 - Desperately Seeking Xenakis with R. Luke DuBois
Q: How did you first get into electronic music, and what was your pivotal learning moment?
Luke traces a specific freshman-year moment on stage and in the studio that sparked his curiosity about electronic music, followed by a formative experience at Columbia's electronic music center that fused analog foundations with emerging computer tools, setting a trajectory toward hybrid practice.
BCB 103 - Multichannel Installation at Fourier's Tomb with Matthias Puech
Q: How did Matthias' path lead him to join GRM and work on Atelier?
He moved from physics to computer science, pursued music technology at IRCAM, and joined GRM after a residency and a commission, where he was asked to evolve the existing GRM tools rather than build something entirely new.
BCB 101 - You're On Lava Lamp with John Elliott
Q: How did Spectrum Spools come into existence and what was the driving philosophy behind it?
The label emerged from a desire to amplify strong contemporaries who deserved broader exposure, inspired by networking at No Fun Fest and a belief in filling a historical gap for these artists.
