  • I think you’re awesome because……

You interviewed my son, Bradley Thomas Stephens! Yup, proud mom here. I could tell you sooo many things about him, but I’ll offer one of my favorite memories. When Brad was just a wee toddler, he loved helping me in the kitchen. He’d even go so far as to climb IN the dishwasher to reach glasses and cups to pass up to me as we put the dishes away. It’s no wonder to me that he loves helping others so much. It’s in his genes! I loved listening to you guys talk today, probably because I’m his bigges... more

  • Organized fantasy adventure

Ever meet someone who plans like they’re preparing for a NASA launch—color-coded spreadsheets, ten-tab Google Docs, and contingencies for their contingencies? Yeah, that’s Jon Mateer. You’d think you're about to listen to the most meticulously orchestrated campaign... And then... they hit “record.”

What follows is less “organized fantasy adventure” and more “chaotic bar shift narrated by a DM possessed by six racoons and a bottle of mezcal".

The Mixing Glass | Guest Shift - Michael Toscano | The Pathfinder
Q: What was the moment that sparked your shift to sobriety?
A slow burnout culminating in a hospital-worthy performance at Tales of the Cocktail, followed by a personal realization during the event and a decisive admission to his wife that he was an alcoholic, which started his sobriety journey.
The Mixing Glass | Guest Shift - Frankie Francis | The Gaming Mixologist
Q: What's your favorite shift you've ever worked and what made it special?
He recalls an 80s cruise ship shift with a tight-knit crew, dressing up in era-appropriate costumes and sharing camaraderie, which stands out as the most memorable due to the fun, teamwork, and unique theme.
The Mixing Glass | Guest Shift - Frankie Francis | The Gaming Mixologist
Q: What was your first taste of the world of hospitality? What was your first job, and what drew you in and made you stay?
Frankie describes his pivot from a personal trainer to bartending after a bar encounter where he observed a bartender juggling conversation, drinks, and guests—this inspired him to pursue the craft after recognizing his people skills and talk-ability as transferable to bartending. He details training experiences, initial roles as a bar back, and the gradual journey into full-time bartending over more than a decade.
The Mixing Glass | Guest Shift - Zack Berger | Guinness in the City
Q: What was Zack's first significant moment that pulled him toward brand ambassadorship?
A bartender's toast with the CEO of Edrington Americas after sharing stories at Per Se led to Zack receiving an invitation to join the company, launching his ambassadorship journey.
The Mixing Glass | Guest Shift - Mark McDonough | Duval Dice & Dungeons
Q: How did you evolve from a local guild to Duval Dice and Dungeons?
It started with Sydney forming Bates, Games and Geeks to create a safe space; as the group grew, the name and space expanded to Duval Dice and Dungeons with formal collaboration at conventions.
