Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Who Decides What Inclusion Means?
Q: So, Dulal, tell us how you moved into DPI and whether DPI was an organization you already knew about.
Dulal explains that his Bangladeshi organization, BP CAS, is a DPI member and that DPI operates with a global network, regional offices, and UN consultative status, emphasizing DPI's role in advocating for UNCRPD adoption and implementation.
Turning Any Webcam Into An Accessibility Tool For Work And Games
Q: Mike, how have you navigated the complexity of systems—old and new hardware, various operating systems, and external versus built-in cameras—to make SensePilot work reliably?
We started by focusing on Windows PC gaming because that's where most of the action is and then tested on Windows 10/11. We opted for on-device processing to avoid cloud dependency, which simplifies deployment in secure enterprise environments and keeps performance snappy even on older hardware. If Mac support is needed later, we'll approach it with careful resource balance so updates don't stall ongoing development.
Heather Hepburn: Leading the Charge for Accessibility at Skyscanner
Q: How do you expand accessibility education beyond the usual tech circles?
By talking to audiences outside traditional accessibility conferences—travel conferences, technology events, and management/leadership groups—to show real-world impact. The aim is to meet people where they are and demonstrate how barriers in digital spaces affect journeys, which helps leaders understand why embedding accessibility is essential.
Heather Hepburn: Leading the Charge for Accessibility at Skyscanner
Q: What is Teach Access Europe and why is it important?
Teach Access Europe is an extension of Teach Access in the US, aimed at embedding accessibility into higher education curricula. It helps universities and lecturers incorporate accessible design into computer science and UX teaching, ultimately producing graduates who already understand accessibility before entering the workforce.
Heather Hepburn: Leading the Charge for Accessibility at Skyscanner
Q: Tell us how you got started in accessibility and what drew you to this work.
I began about six years ago after noticing accessibility issues during my time as a content designer. Early on I recognized that many teams weren't considering accessibility at all, which sparked a drive to fix it. I started the Champions of Accessibility Network informally via a Slack channel, gathered people, and then presented a plan to management which led to formalizing the program.
