What a great podcast. I really enjoy the way you bring out the characters and their approaches to their work of some of Australia’s and international photographs. Great listening when processing photos on the computer. I watched the first Video edition with Tom Putt. It was great to see the visuals, but it distracted me and slowed down my photo processing.

AN AMAZING CHAT with Photo journalist Paddy Dowling, who's craft makes Homeland look like an amateur theater production.
Q: What role does gear play in your storytelling, especially with Leica cameras?
Gear matters for reliability and post-production efficiency; the camera should disappear into the moment so the subject's story remains the focus, not the equipment.

Q: How do you stay safe in dangerous assignments, and is there a plan B if things go wrong?
Safety is a constant concern, but you balance it with the need to capture decisive moments; sometimes you rely on local support, but you cannot overplan because the risk is inherent in the work.
Renowned street photographer Jesse Marlow from the Leica Akademie drops in for a chat, he also gives away some of the settings he uses for street, which is the toughest genre of the craft!
Q: What are your go-to lenses and how have your camera choices influenced your street work?
He favors primes for simplicity and quicker decision-making, uses Leica Q-series for street work due to its compactness and discreteness, and transitions to SL-series systems for architectural and commissioned work while preserving a street photographer's eye.

Q: Jesse, how do you approach street shooting in terms of interaction with people and technical setup?
He says he generally avoids direct contact to stay discreet, aiming for candid shots and using body language and quick movements to stay unobtrusive, with a preference for minimal gear that travels light.
OM System ambassador and star of Head On In Perth, Macro mastermind Bridgette Gower gives us an idea of her settings from her AMAZING collection Disco Bugs.
Q: What are your go-to settings for these macro shots?
