  • What makes the scene so special

Brian is a dear old friend, and I can’t think of anyone better to have launched this podcast. He’s equal parts knowledgeable, opinionated, and open-minded, and I love how his podcast centers around what essentially makes Phish shows so special: shared, subjective experiences.

  • Invaluable resource for a meandering exploration of past Phish performances.

Brian and his guests are knowledgeable and conversant Phish aficionados. Their laid back, first hand accounts point the way to and provide context for many lesser known gems in Phish’s catalog.

Each episode is a fine supplement to pair with actually listening to the discussed concert (found elsewhere). It’s like wine and cheese, each one enhances enjoyment of the other.

    Five stars from me.

  • Great show

Although I found this show only a year or so ago, I quickly got hooked. For anyone that wants to hear the story behind the show, or even gain new perspective on classics we all know, this is perfect. With guests that include everyone from “Phish Famous” folks to the ordinary fan, Brian is doing amazing things to record and preserve the oral history of the phenomenon that is Phish.

  • WARNING: This podcast is ADDICTIVE!!

Brian does a great job sharing his enthusiasm for the band and setting his guests up to shine and share great memories they have of shows and specific songs. The episodes can’t come fast enough. Even the most knowledgeable of Phish fans will learn something from these episodes.

12/28/96 @ The Spectrum w/ Scott Mitchell
Q: What role did Page play in this show, and how is that reflected in the setlist?
Page drives the show; his piano work and leadership are central from Maze through Strange Design, and the final peak of Weekapog leading into a quiet, emotional piano outro shows how Page can carry a set with melodic clarity.
12/28/96 @ The Spectrum w/ Scott Mitchell
Q: What makes the second set of December 28th, 1996 special to you?
The second set is a Page-forward showcase, with intense Maze improvisation, a rare Strange Design placement, and a dramatic Weekapog dive, all culminating in a powerful, melodic piano-led moment that defined the night for me.
8/3/91 @ Amy's Farm w/ Matt Leaf
Q: What stands out about Amy's Farm as a turning point?
Amy's Farm stands out as a DIY proto-festival that demonstrated how a community could organize a large outdoor show with three sets, minimal industry involvement, and a strong sense of celebration and mutual aid that would influence future Phish festivals.
8/3/91 @ Amy's Farm w/ Matt Leaf
Q: When was your first Phish show and what do you remember most about it?
My first Phish show was February 16, 1991 at the Marquis Club in New York, and I was struck by the band's improvisational energy and how it drew me from a Dead-head background into a new, vibrant scene.
“Tweezer” from 12/31/25 @ MSG w/Chris Witaske
Q: What did you think of New Year's Eve 2025 Tweezer and why did you choose this jam for the episode?
The jam is described as a 30-minute monster that serves as a glue between visual gags and mind-melting psychedelia, representing a culmination of the year's extended jams, thoughtful transitions, and the band's willingness to let improvisation breathe.
