  • The truth will set you free.

So grateful for this scripture based wisdom. In a world where God’s word is twisted to the benefit the whims of fallen humanity, the sound biblical principles shared by Pastor John are necessary, loving, and true.

  • Christian Hedonism

I love this podcast almost as much as the short devotional podcasts. I am reading Brother Lawrence right now. It seems like he lived in a state of Christian hedonism. The Practice of the Presence of God would be a great quick read for more inspiration, if you’ve never read a copy. I’d love to hear the opinions of John regarding this little volume and would find it hard to believe it hasn’t been referenced by Pastor John at some point.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Your Regrets Cannot Ruin You
Q: Why does Paul not refer to past sins when listing the things that cannot separate us from the love of God?
The host explains that Paul's argument emphasizes the overarching mercy of God in Christ—past sins are forgiven and nullified by the cross, so the focus shifts to living in light of that forgiveness rather than fixating on past failures.
The Pleasure Trap
Q: Can my silence with the gospel cost souls eternally?
Yes, the host asserts, arguing that neglecting to share the gospel can jeopardize others' eternal destinies, and this is presented as a serious responsibility for believers.
The Pleasure Trap
Q: Is it better to kill all capacity to enjoy any earthly thing to stay spiritually safe?
No. The host explains that it's not feasible to shut down all senses or pleasures, since God designed them and intends them to be enjoyed in a way that honors Him; instead, Christians should evaluate pleasures by whether they help love for Christ, deepen prayer, or strengthen witness. If a pleasure diminishes Godward affections, it should be reoriented or limited rather than eliminated entirely.
Why a Crowd Got Resurrected
Q: Is this something out of a zombie movie? Or why is this bizarre miracle even in the text? And why is Matthew the only person to mention it?
The host explains the text and why Matthew may be highlighting this event, offering six possible interpretive angles that connect the death of Jesus to the resurrection of the body, and stressing that this miracle serves as a witness to the gospel, even if other Gospels don't recount it in the same way.
When Your Boss Expects You to Lie
Q: The question is from a 35 year old man in sales. Pastor John, hello, and thank you for this podcast. My high pressure job requires me to mislead clients to meet quotas.
Pastor John responds by emphasizing that truthfulness is non-negotiable, citing scripture that disallows deception and urging the listener to honor God with integrity even when the cost is high, and to trust that God will supply and vindicate those who live righteously.
