  • Christian Hedonism

I love this podcast almost as much as the short devotional podcasts. I am reading Brother Lawrence right now. It seems like he lived in a state of Christian hedonism. The Practice of the Presence of God would be a great quick read for more inspiration, if you’ve never read a copy. I’d love to hear the opinions of John regarding this little volume and would find it hard to believe it hasn’t been referenced by Pastor John at some point.

Waiting Is the Hardest Part
Q: How do I see purpose in what feels pointless?
He encourages looking to God for purpose even in suffering, which can lead to new experiences of security, song, and significance.
Waiting Is the Hardest Part
Q: How can I understand this image as God's deliberate action in my own life?
Piper discusses the importance of waiting for God's actions during life's trials, emphasizing that delays may be designed to produce growth and new insights.
Marks of a Godly Boss
Q: How has Jesus' radical redefinition of greatness that whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant?
Jesus challenges our measures of success by presenting a counterintuitive path where leadership is defined by self-giving and servanthood rather than privilege and authority.
The Hardest Heart God Can Save
Q: Did God harden their hearts first as some kind of a judgment and then abandon them to their own sin?
Piper explains that human hardness is due to a condition of rebellion already present before God allows people to pursue their sinful ways. This hardness does not prevent God's mercy from saving anyone.
Life Guidance for Sinners
Q: How does acknowledging our ongoing sinfulness help us find God's guidance more effectively?
Acknowledging our sinfulness does not disqualify us from God's guidance but rather is an essential part of receiving it. The struggle against sin can actually reassure us of our genuine faith.
