  • Great FAB podcast!

Wonderful balance of thoughtful analysis of the game while still leaving room for both of the hosts’ personalities to come through. Episodes are in depth but always well paced, with a high ratio of content that is directly about the game.

  • The best Spikey FaB Pod

Hayden and Brendan are great at digging deep, and the way they try to take advice about specific decks/metas and glean more broadly applicable heuristics makes this one of my favourite strategy and improvement tools. Swag.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Arsenal Pass EP 263 - The State of Skill in Flesh and Blood
Q: What defines skill expression in Flesh and Blood today?
Skill expression is the number of meaningful decision points a player can navigate, with closer alignment to optimal lines indicating higher skill, and it encompasses deck building, turn sequencing, and resource management.
Arsenal Pass EP 264 - Where are we at with Silver Age? W/The Teklo Foundry
Q: Question, how should I approach the struggle of being scared and intimidated by playing a hero that I see so many skilled players navigate?
Marco emphasizes that learning is a process and that beginners should embrace their own learning journey, taking notes and consuming learning resources to build understanding gradually. He suggests focusing on small, actionable takeaways from each session and recognizing that even pros make mistakes, which helps reduce intimidation and keeps motivation high.
Arsenal Pass EP 262 - How to Choose a New Hero
Q: Why do we think that the Mechanologist Class has not received a class defense reaction?
The discussion centers on how boost-based Archetypes are designed to stay streamlined and powerful without a defensive package, and how non-boost Mec options are arguably underserved; a defense reaction could overbalance current design space, so the hosts think there might not be a defense read now, but it could appear if the archetype shifts away from boost in future design space.
Arsenal Pass Ep260 - The 5th Aniversary Special!
Q: How did James White come up with the concept of pitch stacking and second cycle, and how did that become a pillar of the game design?
James explains that it took seven years to design the game system, and that pitching blues to the bottom of the deck created a meaningful late-game mechanic. This allowed for a start-strong gameplay feel and a wear-down dynamic that aligns with a strategic pacing and resource management theme, ultimately shaping how players approach cycles and endgames.
Arsenal Pass EP 257 - Arakni, Huntsman Masterclass
Q: How does Huntsman play differently from other top decks?
Huntsman is framed as a middle-ground deck that disrupts the opponent's plan by attacking their deck rather than just dealing damage, with Raven Gloves and on-hit effects creating a relentless, turn-by-turn pressure that accelerates the game.
