  • First Show

    Great first program!

Good that you had Brad and Scott on the first episode with you Michael.

Agree, podcast: another good vehicle to help increase awareness of AWF.

Just knowing about an organization dedicated to conservation, good land use and clean water, hunting, fishing, boating, birding and camping should help improve support from the public and grow the membership

    All the best,

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Fiscal Impact of Transferring Federal Lands to Arizona
Q: What do PILT payments mean for rural counties, and how would a transfer affect them?
PILT payments compensate counties for the lack of property taxes on federal land; removing lands from federal ownership would jeopardize those payments, forcing counties to raise taxes or cut services to make up the shortfall.
Fiscal Impact of Transferring Federal Lands to Arizona
Q: Explain to a non-specialist why this transfer is bad for Arizona financially.
The federal government covers ongoing maintenance, fire mitigation, and infrastructure for public lands; the state would need to fund all of this itself, which would require higher taxes or cuts to other programs, undermining services like education and health care.
Learning the Land, an Emerging Voice in Conservation
Q: What drew you to AWF and this public lands role?
He explains a long-standing through-line of studying rivers, conservation, and beavers, and notes AWF's mission aligns with his desire to lead advocacy and engage directly with communities across Arizona.
Learning the Land, an Emerging Voice in Conservation
Q: Where did you grow up and how did you get into conservation?
Christian describes growing up in Memphis, discovering outdoor recreation through local trails, and his early work with Wolf River Conservancy, which sparked his passion for protecting places and engaging in outdoor advocacy.
