  • What utter propaganda!

Seriously, you call yourself an independent podcast? You are utterly anti-West, anti-Israel and repeating Iranian propaganda and antisemitic conspiracy theories. This is not serious journalism, it does not correspond to Academic standards, you twist and turn facts so that they correspond to an extremely one-sided worldview.

  • Anti-Israel, otherwise good

They do a good job on discussing most Arab countries but they don’t even attempt to hide their hatred of Israel and use extremist rhetoric to discuss it.

  • Balance

    Hello Arab Digest,

I’ve been listening to the podcast for a few months now. I live in Dubai and describe myself as a casual listener and I starting listening to your podcasts as I wanted to become more aware of the geo politics of the region.

I find some of the podcasts interesting but

I feel the podcast never chats with the establishment in the gulf states and that’s a gap. The view shared in the podcast are mostly seen through the lens of western academia and are mostly anti establishment.... more

  • Sincerely needed

We really need a podcast of this depth for the MENA region that is independent and not financed or controlled by any state actor. The quality of the episodes so far are excellent.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How hard has the war hit GCC economies?
Q: How do sovereign wealth funds factor into resilience and liquidity?
Sovereign wealth funds provide liquidity to repay debt and fund redirected food supplies; their liquidity and investment portfolio composition will influence long-term resilience, and some countries faced past episodes where liquidity was challenged despite high credit ratings.
How hard has the war hit GCC economies?
Q: Which GCC economies are showing resilience and which are suffering?
Qatar and Kuwait are most affected due to export routes through the Straits of Hormuz and lack of direct access to the Red Sea/Indian Ocean, Bahrain is weakest due to dependence on trade and a large financial sector; UAE and Saudi Arabia are less affected because of multiple exit routes and large sovereign wealth funds.
How hard has the war hit GCC economies?
Q: What sort of metrics should be used to assess the impact of the war on Gulf states' economies?
Metrics start with government budgets and revenue, then inflation and wage pressures, followed by effects on private sector through government spending cuts, construction, and liquidity; indicators like new building permits, company formations, and airport traffic provide a broader picture of economic activity beyond the budget.
Football, Sudan and Sheikh Mansour
Q: What is the current status of the UK government and Premier League responses to your complaint?
Both the UK government and the Premier League replied with non-committal lines; the government acknowledged ongoing external actor influences but did not confirm action, and the Premier League redirected to its rules and owners and directors test rather than taking explicit action.
Football, Sudan and Sheikh Mansour
Q: What is the gist of the complaint FairSquare filed with the UK government regarding Sheikh Mansour and Manchester City?
FairSquare collected and presented evidence linking Sheikh Mansour to UAE involvement with the RSF and Sudan, arguing for an investigation and potential sanctions if strong ties are proven, while acknowledging that the aim was to increase pressure and not to presume action without solid findings.
