  • The BEST classical music conversation show!

This is consistently the BEST classical music conversation show out there. As a conductor, I was first intrigued by the open and thoughtful interviews with Mark Scatterday, Leonard Slatkin, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, etc… But now that I’ve made my way through the impressive back catalogue of episodes, I find myself most often recommending to students the episodes with Anne Midgette, Morten Lauridsen, Carol Jantsch, Gail Williams, and other diverse composers, performers, and teachers from all walks of ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Will Leathers: Principal Trumpet of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and the Santa Fe Opera, on auditions, collaborations, his new album, and his goals for the future.
Q: Could you talk about the Santa Fe audition and how it compared to Nashville's audition process?
The Santa Fe audition was a one-day process with four rounds, much shorter and more compact than Nashville's lengthy finals with many excerpts; the final chamber music round and the screen coming down created a very different, more intimate evaluation environment.
Ammiel Bushakevitz: A celebrated pianist, collaborative artist, and chamber musician whose journey through classical music has taken him across six continents.
Q: Can you describe your two Schubert projects and why they are significant to you?
One is a long-term collaboration with the baritone Konstantin Kreml, mirroring Schubert's life 200 years ago, and the other is a broader Piano Works project to capture Schubert's piano output, skipping unfinished or inappropriate pieces, aiming for a compact yet comprehensive set.
Ammiel Bushakevitz: A celebrated pianist, collaborative artist, and chamber musician whose journey through classical music has taken him across six continents.
Q: What sparked your interest in Schubert, and how did your relationship with his music begin?
I first discovered Schubert around age 12 through Die Schöne Müllerin, learned it phonetically, and was hooked from there.
Ammiel Bushakevitz: A celebrated pianist, collaborative artist, and chamber musician whose journey through classical music has taken him across six continents.
Q: Where are you currently and how close are you to your usual base?
I'm in Zurich, not far from Freiburg, which keeps travel short and convenient for rehearsals and concerts.
Ammiel Bushakevitz: A celebrated pianist, collaborative artist, and chamber musician whose journey through classical music has taken him across six continents.
Q: How do you stay physically and mentally prepared for jet lag when you travel for performances?
I try to adapt quickly to the new time zone by avoiding naps or siestas and pushing through the first couple of days until I settle into the local rhythm.
