Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 373 - 2026 Heard Indian Fair & Market
Q: What sparked your collaboration with Western painters and how did that begin?
It started from the bottom, with honorable mentions in markets, which motivated me to push for first place and then publications; Russ Hoover proposed a collaboration idea to connect me with painters, leading to a more authentic fusion of Hopi imagery with Western painting and publications.
Ep. 372 - Critters and Creatures: A Conversation with Randal Dutra
Q: At what point did you realize this could be my career or was it always going to be that way?
I wouldn't recommend this to anybody looking at a career... Eventually, if you're talented and disciplined, you will find you have a career.
Ep. 368 - Alyssa Monks and the Ways of Water
Q: What was your first big break?
Monks discusses her first sales in high school, particularly a significant sale to a peer, which felt validating and encouraging to her as an artist.
Ep. 368 - Alyssa Monks and the Ways of Water
Q: What was the next step? When did you realize that this could be not just a hobby or something you do on your spare time?
Monks explains that she always felt committed to art despite her parents' doubts, viewing her life as one that would support her art rather than the other way around.
Ep. 360 - Winslow Homer Watercolors with Ethan Lasser and Christina Michelon from the MFA Boston
Q: Why should people leave their houses and come see a Homer exhibition?
His works give us license to slow down and see the way that Homer saw.
