  • Must-Listen for Wildlife Lovers

I love this show! The format is fairly standard but changes things up enough to keep it fresh. It covers specific species each episode, covering interesting facts but then also occasionally interviewing conservation professionals. The show works for kids but does not “dumb down” commentary and engages in some real conservation complexities that keep adults fascinated and educated while also remaining accessible to young animal lovers. Very well done!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Camouflaged Okapi
Q: What is their natural predator in the jungles of the Congo?
You're going to have large cat species like leopards as potential predators.
The Camouflaged Okapi
Q: Do we know what their numbers are like in the wild right now, or how they're doing?
It's hard to know. Many locals who live in the areas have never even seen one, but their numbers in the Ituri forested area are probably around 13,000 to 15,000.
The Camouflaged Okapi
Q: Can you speak about the young baby that got born here a little bit ago?
Yes, we had a female born to our female, Subira, and it was a long wait for this baby because the gestation period on an Okapi is about 440 days.
World Cassowary Day
Q: How do you get your start as a wildlife care specialist for cassowaries?
Anna shared her educational background and experiences at smaller zoos before joining the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
Looking Back—and Forward: The Flight Path of the California Condor
Q: What does a condor nest look like in the wild?
Condors are cavity nesters, using caves on cliff sides or tree cavities with sandy substrates but not building nests with sticks.
