  • Grateful

I’ve never reviewed a podcast before today. What would compel me- after only 2 episodes- to recommend this podcast? In just 2 episodes, it’s proving instrumental in unpacking my own complicity in a corrupt and harmful system. As an adoptive parent, I need a daily dose of this and an antidote to the dominant narrative around adoption. As I work to understand how to repair and resist adoptism, while making sure the children in my care feel and have my full support to find their own healing and res... more

  • Thank you!

As a spouse of an adoptee, this podcast has been soooo illuminating. As an only child of divorced parents at age 8 who remarried and had 2 children on both sides… this podcast has helped me understand myself and areas of grief I couldn’t name before. There’s so many helpful resources and insights that are instigating both my husband and I to find the right therapy to process our trauma and pain.

    Thank you Hailey!!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Lisa Olivera, MFT
Q: Are you comfortable talking about the rupture in your reunion with your sister and what you've learned from that experience?
The rupture showed that reunion can be fragile and that closeness can be questioned; it pushed me to deepen my sense of self outside relationships, understand that others' leaving is not always a reflection of my worth, and to practice openness and honesty in cultivating relationships.
Lisa Olivera, MFT
Q: So can we pivot and talk a little bit about what motherhood has looked like for you as an adopted person?
Motherhood has uprooted and amplified my grief while also creating a deep mirror of healing; my daughter embodies both the pain of loss and the gift of connection, teaching me to hold both aspects with presence and to help her be herself without absorbing all my past wounds into her growth.
Lisa Olivera, MFT
Q: But for folks who might be new to you, do you mind just sharing a little bit of your Adoptee story before we talk about your new work and Adoptee things?
I was found as a newborn and adopted a few days later, grew up with a family without much discussion of adoption, and later discovered my biological family through ancestry.com, which opened a lifelong, complex, and deeply meaningful journey of grief and belonging.
Monique Pangari, MEd, SEP
Q: How did you begin to reconnect with your origins and build a career around this work?
After periods of personal upheaval and discovery, she pursued higher education, trained in expressive therapies, and gradually focused on attachment, sovereignty, and adoption-informed psychotherapy.
Monique Pangari, MEd, SEP
Q: What were the early experiences like parenting at 17 and navigating family reactions to your pregnancy?
She describes the support from her parents, the impact of stigma, leaving school to work, and choosing to keep her baby, which became the foundation for her later educational and professional path.
