I listen to a huge number of horror podcasts. This is easily one of the best out there.
Forts and foremost great stories, great storytelling. Apolitical and that is very much appreciated. No agendas pushed.
Ambiguous endings are ok sometimes, but not every story. The stories are produced well, performed well…but 5 out of 5 were neither actually scary nor had an ending. They just cut off. No twist. No pay off. They just dead end.
Got to these podcast as a recommendation for something similar to the great knifepoint horror podcast. While Acephale is not as good, it certainly holds up to a standard. All the ideas are quite fascinating but the writing is often too overexplanatory and too unnecessary long. Less is more and I wish the author would trim the fat.
I really look forward to each episode of this podcast; the stories are well crafted and unusual, they’re never predictable and never cliched. The style is subtle but is all the more effective when the weird suddenly reveals itself. If you like writers such as Thomas Ligotti or Robert Aickman, this will be a real treat.
