Advocacy Discussion with AAHKS Presidential Award Winner
Q: How should members contribute to advocacy if they lack time?
Donating to the OrthoPAC is a meaningful way to influence policy, and aligning with AMA can provide direct lines of communication to policymakers like the RUC.
Advocacy Discussion with AAHKS Presidential Award Winner
Q: What does the Health Policy Fellowship look like for a young surgeon today?
It's a two-year program with ongoing advocacy calls, DC meetings, and board interactions; it creates a pathway to understand legislation, engage with law and lobbying firms, and participate in leadership within AAHKS.
Advocacy Discussion with AAHKS Presidential Award Winner
Q: What drew you to health policy and advocacy in the first place?
A mentor and early exposure to the economics of implants and hospital payment structures showed me how policy shapes access and the economics of care, which led me to pursue the Health Policy Fellowship.
Synovial Metal Ions in Nickel Free vs. Standard Cobalt-Chrome Containing Total Knee Replacement
Q: So how do you explain that? Because these implants are hypoallergenic, they don't have nickel in them. So why would those implants have higher nickel in the synovial fluid?
We can just kind of hypothesize that this could be due to damage from cutting guides or other metallic implants in the body.
Synovial Metal Ions in Nickel Free vs. Standard Cobalt-Chrome Containing Total Knee Replacement
Q: What are you doing when patients come in with nickel allergies now?
We are now doing it robotically without the capture guides in those patients.
