Chatting with Award Winning Lesbian Author Patricia Grayhall
Q: You mentioned your publishing journey and shifting between self-publishing and traditional publishing. What has that experience been like for you?
The journey has been learning and iterative: from early self-publishing to working with SheWrites Press and distribution through Simon & Schuster, and now planning a thriller with mirrored collaboration and a growing author platform, with plans to self-publish future projects if needed.
Chatting with Award Winning Lesbian Author Patricia Grayhall
Q: So your latest novel, A Place for Us, released this month in June in Pride Month. Without any spoilers, can you tell us what it's about and what inspired you to write it?
It follows Joe, an environmental attorney, and Lauren, a free-spirited British woman, who meet in London in 1981 and later reunite in San Francisco to navigate long-distance love and immigration challenges, with a focus on longing, belonging, and choosing to be together despite obstacles.
Why is sapphic omegaverse so controversial? We're chatting with RJ Berryhill!
Q: What was the author's publishing journey like and what practical tips would you share for aspiring indie authors?
The author started with a desire to fill a world-building gap in sapphic urban fantasy, used Netgalley for visibility, found Ingram Spark challenging while KDP ebook publishing proved easier, and recommends starting with KDP for beginners, then expanding to print and distribution as you grow your catalog.
Why is sapphic omegaverse so controversial? We're chatting with RJ Berryhill!
Q: What is Omegaverse, and why is it controversial in sapphic fiction?
Omegaverse is a world-building framework with a secondary sex system (Alphas, Betas, Omegas) that influences power dynamics and sexual pairing; controversy arises from gender representation, intersex possibilities, and how these tropes intersect with lesbian identities, sometimes feeling like a shift away from realistic depictions toward fantasy biology.
Villains, Vibes & Very Gay Fiction, We're Chatting with Lee Winter
Q: Without spoilers, can you tell us what When DC Loved Iowa is about and what inspired you to write it?
Lee shares that When DC Loved Iowa started as a funny short story in the Red Files universe, focusing on a sharp-tanged TV reporter and a no-nonsense flight mechanic at a friend's wedding, which the publisher encouraged to expand into a proper book.
