  • One of my go to Podcasts

I can’t say enough good things about the 1988 Topps podcast. Matt and David are informative but so entertaining. It’s not just listening to someone reading a Sabre bio, it’s stats, it’s personal antecdotes, and it’s clips from ball games or from radio broadcast, television etc. etc.

it’s the anecdotes and how they remember the player that I enjoy the most.

Matt and David often have formed that personal connection to a player baseball and they put the same amount of effort into it be at Hall ... more

  • Great storytellers

I will start by saying that I don’t understand the obsession with baseball cards - my husband is “that guy.” But this show isn’t just for card nerds; it’s about real people and their lives. The hosts are great storytellers and they clearly put a lot of research and effort into their work. This podcast definitely makes my husband‘s baseball card fetish more bearable on long car trips! Looking forward to hearing about Cubs legend Jody Davis.

  • Entertaining and informative

Matt and David have taken on an ambitious project… analyzing every baseball card (and its subject!) from the 1988 Topps set. As someone who grew up obsessed with these cards it’s so enjoyable to hear them rekindled more than 30 years later. Kudos to the 1988 Topps team, and if you’re looking for suggestions… Wally Backman!

  • Excellent pod!

First off, do Mickey Morandini, 2B US Olympic team (and later Phillies). He’s from my area, and a fellow IU Hoosier (the second Hoosier to wear #12 w/ Philly - Schwarber is the other).

Mickey came back to PGH in ‘91 (?) and pulled off an unassisted triple play vs the Pirates. I was lucky enough to be there and still have the ticket stub somewhere.

Regardless, awesome pod. I eagerly await new episodes each week (or so).

  • Favorited

This show and its hosts are fantastic. I was 14 & obsessed with cards, bought countless packs of 88 Topps. This show has arrived in my life at just the right moment. This very ambitious project is a real achievement and I can’t wait to hear future episodes. For now, having a ball listening through to all of them. <3 x infinity !
