  • Give the guest more time!

I love these ladies- they are so full of information in their own right and I love their banter! However, there are so many wonderful guests that hardly get airtime and it’s such a shame when you have such limited time. You need to get together a few minutes before the guest “arrive” and get your personal socializing out of the way or save it for after the show so we can hear more from the guest.

19 Cats and Counting Episode 162 Beyond the Vet Visit: Natural Ways to Help Your Cat Thrive
Q: What role does diet play in pet wellness and behavior?
They discuss the importance of fresh or raw foods for higher vitality, the risks of dry diets for cats, and how nutrition affects energy, mood, and disease risk, with practical guidance on avoiding restrictive feeding that masks underlying imbalances.
19 Cats and Counting Episode 159 What Your Cat Wishes You Knew (Especially as They Age) Part 1
Q: What are some practical strategies for caretakers of senior cats dealing with sensory changes?
Caretakers should expect hearing and smell changes, provide consistent routines, use scent and sound cues cautiously, consider warmer, more aromatic foods to stimulate appetite, and ensure safe feeding setups to support comfort and reduce stress.
19 Cats and Counting Episode 159 What Your Cat Wishes You Knew (Especially as They Age) Part 1
Q: How did your interest in animal welfare evolve and lead you to focus on senior cats?
I pursued animal law and then shifted toward animal welfare science because I wanted to understand the biology and behavior behind care, not just legal frameworks, which naturally drew me to aging cats and how to keep them healthy and happy as they grow older.
19 Cats and Counting Episode 160 More Than ‘Just a Cat’: Love, Loss & Living Better with Cats
Q: Why is it important to involve a veterinarian when there is a behavioral change in an older cat?
Because many behavioral changes can be rooted in medical issues, and addressing health first can prevent misattributing symptoms to behavior alone.
19 Cats and Counting Episode 160 More Than ‘Just a Cat’: Love, Loss & Living Better with Cats
Q: Would you say that's true about cats needing different types of attention and enrichment?
Yes, cats are individuals with distinct personalities and needs, and enrichment should be tailored to each cat rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
