  • Great show

Great for music lovers, especially if you love talking about it with people just as passionate about it as you are. Feels like you’re just hanging out and talking music with a couple friends.

  • Expand your musical horizons

I’m a big Al Melchior fan and always looking for something else to listen to so I am not about to miss an episode. I think the advice to listen to each album 3x is good. I usually listen to the album 2x, then the episode, then the album again

In furtherance of the podcast’s mission I suggest each guest & reviewer provide 5 great, underrated albums. Here are mine:

Lost & Gone Forever- Guster - Alt rock

    Moondance - Van Morrison - singer/songwriter

    The Koln Concert-Keith Jarrett-jazz piano

  • Refreshing

Al is such a humble dude. He’s willing to open himself up to his audience by showing that he doesn’t know everything. Learning about new music, even if it’s new to you, with another person is a rare joy. That’s what is at the heart of this podcast. It’s not just the new experience of the music, it’s the rare treat of experiencing music with another person for the first time. Well done Al!

  • I know it’s early...

I’ve only heard a 3 minute trailer, but I feel justified in proclaiming this as the greatest podcast of all-time.

Very excited to see what Al does with this. I’ve long been a fan of his work as a writer and podcaster and he’s shown to have an amazing taste in music in the years we’ve followed each other.

    Highly recommended!

We learned about it after discovering the album, and the idea of sharing a festival with them felt like a huge milestone, especially given the context of their live presence.
223. Ásgeir Discusses Atoms for Peace, Amok
Q: How did you discover Atoms for Peace, and what drew you to that album initially?
It felt natural to dive into it because of the Radiohead connections, the production team, and the way it blended electronic elements with live instrumentation, which aligned with my own interests at the time.
223. Ásgeir Discusses Atoms for Peace, Amok
Q: But before we go there, and probably lots of other places, why did you decide to talk about this particular album?
I wanted to explore how Amok and its sonic directions influenced my own trajectory, as it was a pivotal release that shaped my approach to electronic textures and live performance.
220. Will Epstein Discusses Lou Reed, The Blue Mask
Q: How has Lou Reed's music influenced your own songwriting?
Epstein felt that hearing Reed's boldness in expressing emotionally complex ideas encouraged him to be more authentic and comfortable in his own songwriting, and it gave him a friendly nudge to write from his own experiences.
