實驗教育四個字可以把它歸納成兩個面向 ，一個叫做學校型態的實驗教育 ，另一個面像叫做非學校型態的實驗教育。
學校型態的實驗教育， 包含兩種類型， 一個是公辦公營， 一個是公辦民營。
公辦公營包括台北市幾個知名的學校像是芳和國中、和平實小。
公辦民營的實驗學校，會有原本的公立學校跟民間團體 ，包括基金會和協會合作共同來創辦學校的做法比較知名的是KAIST在台東花蓮甚至雲林都有分校。
非學校型態實驗教育， 跟共學、 自學比較相關。 這部分包括個人自學，由家長自己寫自學計畫，帶孩子做個人自學。
