A fascinating series that brings this important piece of Lancashire history into the light and sets it in a global context of the time. It was thought provoking, challenging and emotional. The diary of Richard Ryley was deeply moving as it brought to life the hardship of the Cotton Famine for one Lancashire family. I look forward to future podcasts from Ruth-Anne.
A fascinating insight into an area of history I knew about in footnotes. The diary of Richard Riley as he goes from a comfortable life to poverty and the real effects of this on his family is heartbreaking. The interplay of history and working class literature is beautifully interwoven. Highly recommend!
