I really enjoyed this podcast for a few reasons. Nearly all of the characters are great, the horrors that Jason dreams up are truly awful, and the mystery is vague enough to stay interesting.
The real sizzle here, however is the editing. This show has the tightest editing of any AP podcast and the result is snappy episodes that don’t challenge the attention span.
Also I stole Simon and the Eight-Legged She and dropped them directly into my own game to incredible effect.
This podcast is an absolute gift to folks like me who are new to Dungeon World. If you've been reading the DW book but really just needed to hear it in action to get your bearings then you've come to the right place.
It's also a very well done actual play with experinced gamers who trust each other to run a serious narrative with naturally occuring comedic elements. I am pretty sick of the AP's that are more about getting laughs then a compelling shared story experience. WHtK is a refreshing re... more
An excellent GM runs a great game for a fun group of players with some pretty delightful characters, enhanced by the fact that it wasn't intended to be a public performance. If you're interested in Dungeon World, this is a fantastic example of how to run/engage with/tweak the system, how to be a flexible GM, and how to be a collaborative player. If you're just interested in listening to a good story and having a fun time, this podcast is that too. The bite-sized chunks of AP are addictive, and I... more
Excellent. Just excellent. This is so incredibly entertaining. It is a must-listen for beginner and expert Dungeon World player alike. Each of the players are creative and witty and bring so much to the game. I applaud Jason’s GM skills. I have learned so much about how Dungeon World is supposed to be played.
I would love a companion “bonus commentary” where the GM walks through each step of just one episode and explains what his thinking was at that moment. It would be so helpful for b... more
I cannot say enough good things about this Actual Play. All of the players are creative, very different in approach, and bought into a more serious narrative. The DM is fantastic and flexible to whatever the players have in mind. It is really collaborative storytelling done well. If there is a complaint, it’s just that the sound quality sometimes lacks, but from what I understand this is basically just an edited Gchat so you can’t really get too upset when that is what you have to work with.
