They have unique eyes which endows them with special abilities. Humans unable to evolve are slaves to the Visionaries because of their powerless eyes. These Dead-eye slaves open rebellion against the Visionaries.

I enjoy the story, though the wavering intensity in every word of some characters made it a little difficult in the first third of season one to get them defined. Also, using the name “Grayson” and having “grayborn” people is either a miss or too on the nose. Besides that, audio is well balanced and the world is interesting, even if ‘primitive slave rebellions’ are a hard wrought ground.
