  • Reclaiming the life God has for me

Oh, how I need this podcast! In an era when life is accelerating at a pace beyond our human capacity--running us ragged and wounding our souls and relationships, I can’t think of messages that are more important than those on this podcast --- Abiding in Jesus, Rest, Solitude, Silence, Sabbath. Listening every week grounds me again, so that I can live the way God always intended.

So grateful for Alan and Gem Fadling and their gentle and wise guidance. Each podcast either gives me space to think about Jesus and his invitation to an unhurried life or to listen to a conversation on a spiritually forming topic. Thank you for this podcast!

  • Podcast Observations

There are some podcast episodes I struggle with completing in its entirety, especially when the episode lacks insight and energy. Maybe the person being interviewed was nervous because of the constant giggling and not fully answering questions that Gem was asking regarding practices in the author’s book. I felt that many of us could have written this book or did this interview because this was all information that we live each and everyday.

  • The name caught my eye

I was living too fast for myself. I knew it. And my daughter, naturally a slow-life gal, recommended this podcast to me.

I have been sooo helped, encouraged, and challenged to hear Alan and Gem share what (and WHO!) they have discovered along the way.

Thank you for helping me to slow down, to savor my life.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

When God Seems Distant (Kyle Strobel)
Q: How can leaders, especially pastors, navigate these seasons without losing hope or effectiveness?
Seek honest conversations with trusted friends or spiritual directors, recognize that seasons of dryness can be formative, and ground leadership in sustained love and grace rather than in achieving constant vitality or outward results.
When God Seems Distant (Kyle Strobel)
Q: What do you see as the main reasons people are reluctant to talk about spiritual dryness?
People fear feeling shame or guilt, worry they are failing God, and assume the normal Christian life should be continually buoyant, which makes dryness feel like a personal failure rather than a shared human experience within faith.
How Leaders Lose Their Way — A Conversation with Peter Greer
Q: What is the antidote to drift in leadership?
The antidote is a consistent practice of micro course corrections, daily disciplines, and stubborn attention to pace and presence with God, plus deliberate acts of service and deep friendships that encourage accountability.
How Leaders Lose Their Way — A Conversation with Peter Greer
Q: Can you talk about the early signs leaders should watch for that indicate drift is starting?
The early signs include a belief that 'the rules apply to others' while exceptions creep in for oneself, increasing inattentiveness to small compromises, and growing isolation from trustworthy people who can challenge you.
Why Leadership Can't Outrun Formation (Jason Jensen)
Q: How do you approach discernment before acting in leadership moments?
He explains using pilgrimage imagery, focusing on alignment with God's will, and orienting toward timely, present commitments rather than chasing a grand, distant plan.
