Reviews

4.7 out of 5 stars from 135 ratings
  • “Climate Realism” in the same way Jurassic Park was a documentary

Tom Nelson calls himself a “climate realist,” but this show is realism in the same way pro wrestling is journalism. A revolving door of cherry-picked contrarians, half-baked talking points, and smug gotchas like “what’s the ideal temperature for Earth?” Spoiler: it’s not 3°C hotter.

If you like your science with a side of conspiracy and your skepticism untethered from data, this pod’s for you.

Otherwise, maybe try a source that doesn’t confuse YouTube comments with peer review.

  • Explainer for the climate crisis by scientists

Tom Nelson continues to collect climate scientists and others who have spent a lifetime working on the physical science and allows them to share their thoughts and explain using scientific principles climate change what is driving it and what is not.

I have consumed a lot of climate change content and it is so rare to actually have scientists to talk about and explain the underlying processes driving climate change. Compared to most, it is focused on analysis as opposed to activism about a cli... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jamie Andrews: “Control Studies” | Tom Nelson Pod #373
Q: What do you think really did happen with the case of like smallpox in the Indians in North America?
And it's something that I've wrestled with for a little bit of time. But I came to the conclusion that it's very, very simple. That what really makes you ill is what all of the mainstream tells you makes you ill.
Joseph Hickey: “Is Canada Warming?” | Tom Nelson Pod #372
Q: Have you looked much at just the impact of urbanization over the last 70 years on the whole temperature record?
No, that's not something we have looked at. It's important to question those points about adjustments.
Joseph Hickey: “Is Canada Warming?” | Tom Nelson Pod #372
Q: How big of a deal do you think it is that you pointed out there, the 10,000 plus instances where Daily Min was higher than Daily Max?
It's a big deal in that it shows the impact that the adjustments can have, but it turns out that those instances are only about 1% of the total data.
Joseph Hickey: “Is Canada Warming?” | Tom Nelson Pod #372
Q: Do you think that there's any chance that there would be step-wise warming but more gradual cooling as these ocean temperatures flip?
It's something that we would like to look into for sure, but I don't have an opinion on that for the moment.
Joseph Fournier: “There is not one greenhouse effect; there are two” | Tom Nelson Pod #374
Q: Do you have any ideas what might happen in the next five or ten years based on stuff that you've seen?
There are predictions about potential cooling cycles due to various natural factors, but predicting long-term climate outcomes remains complex.
