We all want to do the job properly and comprehensively, but at what point should you draw the line when it comes to chasing down the answer to every thought you have in a given task?
It's a common issue for young lawyers - it just seems like everything takes much longer than it "should". So how can we be working towards more efficiency in our practice?
In "legal writing" (whatever that means) should we be using contractions? Some seem to be firmly against, and others much more casual about it all.
Many young lawyers come out of law school with a lot of knowledge and
the ability to put together a sound legal opinion on a given topic.
But when it comes to communicating that to the client... it all goes to
hell in a handbasket.
During law school you developed some tactics, habits and strategies designed to work within the system and maximise your results.
Some of them aren't going to translate well into legal practice.

Should you take advice from people who haven't themselves thrived in the legal profession?
I get it – bad things do happen in a legal career, and there are certainly some aspects that need “fixing”. But the truth is, even if we fix everything we can, a legal career is still going to be challenging at intellectual, emotional and spiritual l... more

Some helpful guidance and sound advice on how to navigate life as a lawyer. Recommending listening for all who have / want a career in law.
I’m a final year law student in Vic and I’ve found this podcast very useful. It’s great at giving a good reality check about the legal industry. I’ve shared your podcast with my university law society and had some great feedback from students.
Keep up the good work
This podcast has accelerated my legal career and revolutionised my attitude to the business of law - I cannot thank Chris enough for his expert advice. I would urge any lawyer, law school student or even any aspiring entrepreneur to listen to as many of Mr Hargreaves’ focused thoughts as is possible. Genuinely, every episode offers great insight that is often instantly applicable.
I just found this podcast, after looking for something lawyer-specific unsuccessfully for several years. Practical advice and tips of how to tackle things unique to the practice of law.
My favorite of all law based podcasts! Thank you, Chris!
I just started listening to this podcast today. As a third-year law student and soon to be baby lawyer, I am finding the information shared very useful and I'm looking forward to incorporating your tips in my future practice.
Very helpful to me as a (fairly) newly qualified lawyer. Attending Law school and having a good understanding of black letter law only get you so far in the thick almost impenetrable fog of attempting to appeal to so many disparate actors upon qualification. I have recently moved to an in-house counsel role and so it would be useful to hear podcasts or a section within each podcast on how to manage the differing dynamics that that encompasses (where obviously distinct from private practice). ... more
Brilliant. Simple. Enjoyable.
Great Podcast - please keep them coming! I really enjoy this Podcast. Your insights are both compelling and relatable - a difficult combination to achieve.
This is a great resource for lawyers at all levels who are committed to their own personal and professional development.
Law student in the states looking for a podcast to give me an edge in the legal industry and this was exactly what I was looking for!
Great advice for young lawyers especially on topics which are sadly lacking from formal legal training
I’ve been listening to Chris’s podcast during my morning commute into work; it’s been great! It gets me pumped up for my day and excited to be the best lawyer I can be for my employer and my clients. I love that this podcast is skills-based and aimed at helping individuals become better lawyers. Even though Chris’s experience is with Australian law, I’ve found that most all of his tips are applicable to my experience as an American lawyer.
Thanks for the down to earth, helpful and practical advice for young lawyers like me!
