  • So good!

The quality of this show is so good! The cast and GM bring a good balance of funny and serious, but what’s really special about this show is the fun exposure you as a listener get to different games that don’t usually get as much attention as say DnD. And they take the time to explain the rules before each campaign, which really helps ppl like me who don’t have the time to learn a bunch of different games. Highly recommend!!

  • Finally systems other than D&D

The new ttrpg pod we’re looking for with great hosts and fresh comprehensive looks at different ttrpgs from the Major players to the Truly Indie. Rules breakdowns and post mortem are helpful to listen to if you want just the overview of the game, but the lets plays include teaching moments in game as well. TTRPG edutainment at its finest.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Tiny Table Q&A Part 1: Protect The Child
Q: Do you have a favorite playbook or archetype, and how did player choices shape its development?
MintRabbit notes not having a single favorite due to ongoing play, but acknowledges how player dynamics—particularly the Trick Taker and Business Beast—reveal different facets of parenting and emotional balance, shaping ongoing refinement of the playbooks.
Tiny Table Q&A Part 1: Protect The Child
Q: Tell us about designing the player options and whether you aimed for any particular tropes or archetypes.
The guest explains inspirations from media like Ice Age, Star Wars Bad Batch, Tokyo Godfathers, and specific scenes, and notes how the archetypes reflect real parental flaws, making the options feel human and relatable while offering varied storytelling roles.
Tiny Table Q&A Part 1: Protect The Child
Q: Could you share how the design of the child evolved and what lessons you learned about building a codified NPC around a child?
MintRabbit discusses keeping the child present at all times, using impulses to insert the child into situations, and ensuring the NPC's agency influences the story. This approach keeps the child central to the arc rather than a passive element, enriching emotional stakes.
Tiny Table Q&A Part 1: Protect The Child
Q: Is the term 'masks' a formal engine term, or is it a design concept you developed for this game?
The guest clarifies that while terms like masks appear in other Forged in the Dark games, in Protect the Child they function as interchangeable character aspects that represent background and abilities, and the game uses them to center the child's perspective and provide dynamic narrative hooks.
Tiny Table Q&A Part 1: Protect The Child
Q: What inspired you to choose the Forged in the Dark engine for Protect the Child, and what lessons did you learn from A Terrible Fate that you applied to this game?
MintRabbit explains that both games were influenced by other Forged in the Dark titles and that the engine's modularity lets you take apart and reassemble its pieces, guiding how play pacing blends high action with interpersonal moments. The knowledge from A Terrible Fate informed how playbooks could be reimagined for Protect the Child, particularly in how to structure the child's role and integrate mechanics like beliefs and impulses.
